Y’all know (I’ve always wanted to say y’all) I love dual use products, and I have a thing of soft pencils. I am in fact, really in love with the Top Shop Sun Shower Crayon – so beautiful – but creases horribly.
So I was giddy when I received these Trish McEvoy 24 Hour Eye Shadow and Liner pencils. Giddy but tentative…like going to a job interview.
In my experience, super soft eye crayons, because they are so gooey, do not hold up for long on the eye. Great eye bases, but cannot be worn for long on their own.
Trish McEvoy’s 24 Hour Pencils come in fancy gold packaging:
They say:
Trish’s exquisitely blendable formula glides on seamlessly giving you optimal playtime before setting to a non-creasing, long-wear, even finish.
There are just three shades to choose from – Aqua marine, a denim type blue, Crystal Gray, a smoky black/gray and Topaz, a gold. I’m afraid the swatches on their website doesn’t show off how lovely and multi-dimensional the shades are:
So the pencils look and feel luxurious. I like how compact they are, I have been carrying these around in my make up bag to use:
But darling, it’s all about the texture!….
These 24 hour eyeshadows do NOT disappoint.
They really don’t.
These are buttery smooth, creamy and pigmented. I found these as creamy and soft as the Top Shop Sun Shower pencil (it needs no warming up at all – remember how much work MAC Shadesticks were? You had to really warm them up to get colour off it!).
I am also impressed with the colours. They are refined, multi-dimensional rather than the obvious white, black, gold, bronze.
The Topaz is a dirty, bronze, burnished brown. It could be a brown, it could be a gold, it’s highly wearable and flattering. Crystal Grey is a deep smoky black grey with silver micro sparkles. Whilst it works as an eyeshadow, it also works pretty well as a daily black eyeliner.
But lasting power – 24 hours? Really?
Well I can’t say because I had to get to sleep after about 20 hours. But I will say that this eyeshadow stick has amazing lasting abilities.
For one thing it didn’t crease. Once set, it stayed in place the whole time I had it on (realistically speaking, 10 hours – the time I am at work).
It didn’t crease! It didn’t crease! It’s so creamy but it didn’t crease!
That’s not to say it won’t crease AT ALL – I had one very sweaty betty day in London, and at the end of an 18 hour day I saw slight creasing at the inner corner of my eye area. This was very slight and my kind of eye shape, with a deep fold, tends to attract creasing.
I did quite a heavy egyptian style eye – but the shadows are easily blended with a finger or brush. But the point is it sits well and wears well as an eyeliner or a shadow.
I just love the tones of Topaz. I hope they release a lot more colours in the range – a green? a pearl? How about a cheek version of this product? Oooohhhh!
Verdict:
Totally great eyeshadow sticks – pigmented, creamy, long lasting, dual purpose, easy to use, quick to use. These will be coming on holiday with my and will live in my ‘to go’ make up bag. Yes I’m gushing. Don’t get exited, I don’t do it often.
