I was sent this cool kit by Shu Uemura to look at – Shu and me go back a long time, my first high end make up love, yada yada yada.
And yet a lot of people still stare at me blankly when I tell them about Shu Uemura.
“Who made your lipstick?”
“Shu Uemura.”
“MAC?”
“She Uemura”
“MAC?”
“Shu Uemura”
“M-A-C?”
And so on.
For those who don’t know, this discovery kit is a good starting point!
Three items are contained in this box – the iconic Eyelash curlers, the new UV Mousse Primer and a 50ml pot of Cleansing Oil. I have tried all of these items before, bar the UV mousse primer which I have in the older formula:
But let’s talk eyelash curlers. I like the Shu Uemura eyelash curlers a lot. They work really well and forget how good they are until I have to borrow someone else’s cheapo curlers that pinch the skin around my eyes.
My favourite Shu Uemura curlers are actually he 24k gold plated ones – amazing and I also have their black ones.
Other great curlers include Shiseido (but not as good as Shu’s I think) and Nars. The key to a good curler for Asian eyes is have a good width
which covers the whole eye without pinching.
Some eye shapes may need a smaller precision curler too.
Before:
Someone told me a long time ago that the Shu Uemura curler in the Western market is different to the one for the Asian market, in terms of shape. I have yet to find this out properly for myself to see if its true.
Curling is pretty easy – its more of a hard curler – not too springy or soft:
After:
I hate having downward facing lashes, but some lash perms scare me and it makes me look even more tired and sleepy – now I know what erectile dysfunction feels like.
In which case, Eyelash curlers, especially good ones like the Shu Uemura curler is my Viagra.
The only problem I have with these is that after you have worn down the 2 sponge pads you are supposed to – swallow that coffee – throw the curler away because it would have lost a lot of its resistance.
I’ll be damned if I’ll throw some £20 eyelash curlers away within 3 months of daily use – I’ll have on to it for at least a year and even then, I’ll dig to box out and give it to someone for Christmas.
Come back later for the UV Base Review!

I have both large and small Shu eyelash curlers. They are so fantastic!
And I want to try that new primer. I have the old Asian version with 17 SPF, but a 30SPF sounds so good!!
