I haven’t used an ELF product for a while (I did a big haul a while ago when there was 50% off but didn’t have a chance to get round to using the items)…then I was sent one of these Flawless Finish Foundation to try out.

Hmm. I am all for affordable make up – why not? Sometimes when I look and actually think about the price of some cosmetics it gives me a migraine.  Then again, I like my luxury base products…it is going to sit on my face all day, after all.

I have the shade Caramel here:

ELF Flawless Finish Foundation SPF 15

They say:

The lightweight formula blends in naturally for a beautiful semi-matte finish. This liquid foundation applies easily and lasts all day for visibly brighter and radiant looking skin. Using our Flawless Finish Foundation not only restores uneven skin textures and tones, but most importantly, the SPF 15 protects your skin against harmful sun damage!

Hmmm….well first off…

The packaging.  It comes in this rather…shall we call it retro foundation bottle! It reminds me of something my mum would have in the 80s, right!? Very boxy.

I guess it’s Nars-ish. But not.

The texture…it is to me, pretty thick and heavy. A bit gloopy. I have a picture of it glooping on my face, slithering down like a slime creature.  I find it heavy to be honest and quite rich – probably best for dry skins.  If you need coverage you will love this – this has a lot of pigment in it.

The finish is semi-matte and indeed, quite flawless looking. But heavy. I can’t get over the fact it feels a bit sticky on me.

Here are the colour choices:

This is a PR sample so I was sent Caramel which to be fair, I would’ve picked myself looking at the swatches but is way too dark for me (well…about 2/3 shades). Therefore for NC35 I’d go for Buff or Sand…Sand looks yellow and buff looks too pink. HMM! Might be a 2 foundation job in order to mix the right shade here.

As I wore this through the day it got stickier and oilier.  It did that weird bunching up thing on my face too.

Another thing; the smell or lack of.  I moan A LOT about artificial and strong perfume in beauty products, I know, but this one doesn’t seem to have any perfume in it and as a result it smells sort of like rubber/plastic. Me no like.

On me:

Coverage wise, it’s great.  You will get a decent amount of cover with one layer, 2 layers you’ll be like a doll, baby.

Ingredients:

Elf Flawless Finish Foundation

Verdict:

With so many delicious foundations for me to use, ELF Flawless Finish is not going to be one of them but if you have dry skin and want something with quite a semi-matte but still dewy (or is that grease!?), good coverage foundation, then this might be it. Also it is price friendly. I will give this to my cousin who is darker than me and is just starting to experiment with make up.  For me, I am not going to give up Sisley and Dior foundation for this product!

You can buy it here for £6.50.

The funny thing about this foundation is that it is supposedly oil free but the fourth ingredient is Mineral oil!

Not sure I like the sound of something being “sticky” on my face all day long…I prefer my base to go on and not be able to feel anything on the skin heavy at all
