So I’m a bit slow, but hey, there’s still 3 weeks until Christmas!
Chanel’s 2010 Holiday offering is gorgeous – I just love the strong brown eyes and hot pink lips – who knew it could work so well and not look overdone?:
Of Chanel’s Holiday collection, I have the Le 4 Ombres Quad in Tentation Cuivree, Patchouli Rouge Coco and two Levres Scintillantes in Charming and Pleasing to try.
(I have tried to source the hot pink lip gloss on counters but it’s sold out everywhere – so strange, because everywhere I look I see boring make up on women’s faces – so who is buying up all these hot pink glosses?!)
First up is the Limited Edition Quad in Tentation Cuivree. I collect Chanel Quads but then I discovered I was….
a. A bit allergic to some of the palettes
b. The older palettes are hard to work with! They are quite hard textured!
So since then I have been tentative. Tentation Cuivree though – is stunning. Just gorgeous. It’s just a brown palette! you say! But it’s a really beautiful palette with a smooth, pigmented texture to die for (and NO allergies…thankfully).
The most stunning thing about this quad is the two chocolate shades. The two pale white and pink shades compliment well but aren’t that interesting. The medium chocolate seems to have some kind of multi sparkle in it.
The darker chocolate is a super rich dark burnt chocolate with flecks of orange gold. It is GORGEOUS.
If there is any downside to this quad, it is that there’s quite a lot of ‘flyaway’ bits – when using the palette you do get powder all over the quad because it just has that kind loose texture.
On my eye:
The palette is gorgeous, a must have.
The Levres Scintillantes USED to be my favourite Chanel lip gloss – no one does micro sparkle as beautifully as Chanel – but now I really adore the Aqualumiere formula. It hydrates so well and makes the lips look plump. (I am sure they are discontinuing the range, shades are disappearing left right and centre. Are you Chanel?! Because if you are I am buying them up!).
I love micro sparkles in the Winter though – something Aqualumiere’s don’t have. Pleasing and Charming are part of the Holiday collections:
Pleasing is a brown shade with loads of micro sparkle and Charming is a pale pink. Both are super duper glittery but I think that only Chanel do the densely packed glitter thing so well. On other glosses (glorious as they are) they get gritty as the gloss disappears.
I have the Rouge Coco in Patchouli, also part of the holiday range. In the tube it looks like a soft brown:
Patchouli is a soft, slightly sheer brown-bronze with some sparkle. The texture is just ok – I don’t know, I think I prefer Rouge Allure to Rouge Coco texture wise – and I wish it was a little more pigmented.
Even so, if you want a soft brown lip that’s easy to wear Patchouli will satisfy you.
Swatches:
Lip swatches!
Charming (a light pink sparkle – love the blue sparkles in it! I’d highly recommend it over something else though, so it doesn’t look too frosty):
Pleasing:
Pleasing looks a lot nicer than expected – it looks brown when swatched but is nice for girls like me with warm skintones.
Patchouli:
Quite a nudy brown shade really, and a wearable lip. It clung a little to dry parts of my lips.
Verdict:
Very pretty collection, and as always after using a bit of Chanel I always want a whole lot more! Christmas list anyone?
What do you think of this collection?
