Hello Ladies!
I’ve been quiet lately because as those of you who follow me on Twitter will know, little Baby Candy made an appearance 4 weeks earlier than expected under somewhat rushed circumstances!
And it’s a…..BOY!
We called him Harrison. We had another name in mind until we saw him. Here’s a photo we took a few hours after he was born. He likes to sleep with one hand to his face!
He is exactly 2 weeks old today, and was only 4lbs 3oz at birth despite being 36 weeks + 5 days old in the womb. He stopped growing in there and in hindsight, it perhaps took the medical profession a little long to notice this – thankfully he scored 10/10 on his Apgar scores so didn’t need to go to intensive care although they still had to monitor him closely for a week.
I had a somewhat traumatic birth, an emergency c-section but it was all totally worth it, yo! The recovery is terrible though, I wouldn’t choose to have another c-sec just because I am permanently on painkillers. It really limits how well you feel you can care for your newborn when you can’t even walk across the room!
Other than that I am just very focused on caring for little Harrison, and dealing with the inevitable tiredness that comes with it! I KNOW tiredness – I used to sleep for 4 hours then go to a full time job every day, but this kind of newborn baby tiredness is really something else.
Breastfeeding is also very tough, and the little one because of his size has a strict feeding schedule which means I am basically feeding ALL THE TIME. Or changing pooey nappies. And my boy likes to poo (he raises his eyebrows as he poos, what does this mean?!).
Mr C has been an angel – an angel throughout this whole process. He has to deal the emotional outbursts AND the baby….anyway – I totally married the right man!
So there you go – babies are so much hard work if you’re doing it right, but it’s completely worth it even if they do turn your brain to mush – I can’t even think about the moment he was born without shedding tears and come to think of it, everything makes me ridiculously emotional at the moment! Hormones!
Harrison says hello to you all and thank you very much for the nice messages on Twitter – we were leaving hospital that day and feeling quite down from the whole experience so it was nice to get some support from the Twitter family!
I hope to grab some time to blog from this or next week, we’ll see!
Love,
Candy Family x

Congratulations again, to all of you! He’s gorgeous and I love how he has his little ways (hand to face, raised eyebrows) already =)
As a sidenote, my brother used to put crazy amounts of effort into filling his nappy. I used to think he was smiling funny until my mother laughed and told me what was really going on. I was only 7, I didn’t know!

Awww, what a sweetie! Congratulations to you and Mr. C! I hope you heal up quickly. Can’t wait to hear more about you and Harrison, and I’d love to hear also how the cats reacted to his coming home. (I have to admit that I’m selfish here, as the hubby and I are thinking of having kids soon, and we have two cats.)

My friend Kath named her baby Harrison too, maybe you’re going to set a trend?

Wow, he’s beautiful!!
Congratulations to you and Mr C!!
In regards to him raising his eye brows, nothing unusual… My 2 month old nephew’s eyes go blank when ever he’s about to poo, and he’s been doing that since birth. It gives you a bit of warning though! x
