Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation seems to have many fans and I recently tried their Doublewear Light foundation, a product which has the long wearing properties of the original but a light, sheer finish. I’ve never tried the original before, although I do prefer a medium coverage base – however, as my skin condition improves a lighter foundation is a good idea.
Doublewear light is a 15 hour wear foundation which a natural, fresh finish. It controls oil, it won’t melt even under heat and goes on sheer.
As this is a sheer cover base, the shade ranges are in ‘intensity’ form – so you are choosing based on depth. They are pretty blendable so I don’t think it’s the end of the world if you are one shade out.
Colour chart:
I felt that I was between a intensity 3 or 4 and went for 4, which in hindsight is actually a little dark.
I would say in MAC terms this is more of a NC40-45 but it does blend in so it looks like I have a bit of a tan. In hindsight I’d go for a shade 3 (I am a NC30-35).
When this comes out of the tube, it looks a little thick and pigmented and it’s not – it is definitely a sheer finish with a slight hint of tint.
Blended in:
I would say this is best for people with better skin – when I was testing this I had some red blotchy areas, and I did need extra concealer on top.
It didn’t cling on to any dry patches, which is a miracle, although isn’t a particularly hydrating base either so I wouldn’t say it’s like a tinted moisturiser. I would definitely use a lotion underneath this.
In terms of how well this lasts – the answer is pretty well – better than most base products I have tried recently. It can last a full day at work which is about 9 hours without slipping off and I keep that glowy look although some red patches do ‘come through’ during the day if that makes sense.
The finish is glowy but it does look matte in some areas.
If you want a long lasting base, far more long lasting than a tinted moisturiser that is light and and will cover very light blemishes, then this is nice product to try out.
For me, it’s one of those bases I’d happily take away with me on a holiday to a warmer clime because I like to have flawless looking skin, and this will last without being to heavy. Generally day to day I prefer more hydration and coverage from a foundation.
It has a SPF of 10 so you will need to use additional sunscreen.
This is on sale on Estee Lauder counters or here and costs £27.50.

hrm, interesting.
I probably prefer a bit more coverage, but on vacation the lasting power would be pretty useful.
Thanks for the review!
