‘The very essence of instinct is that it’s followed independently of reason.’ Charles Darwin

For Christmas this year, Aesop have released a range of science inspired skincare kits, ranging in sizes, functions and prices – and they are pretty funky if I don’t say so myself.

They are called the Daring Cases In Favour of Science. The design and concept would look seriously try-hard with some other brands, but with Aesop and it’s apothecary feel, it works.

I have here possibly the blinder kit; Theory of Evolution:

They say:

Every Aesop formulation has benefited from the disciplined inquiry of agronomists, botanists, chemical scientists and biophysicists. And so with our skin, hair and body care gift collections, we pay homage to the daring discoveries of science.

But what is in the box?…

In this particular set you get practically the whole range of their Parsley Seed Skincare. I have reviewed their Gel Cleanser before which is great, but was a bit too much for my dry sensitive skin (it contains Lactic Acid).  I have heard good things about their cleansing oil though.

In this set you get:

  • Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil 200ml
  • Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Toner 100ml
  • Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Serum 100ml
  • Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Eye Cream 10ml
  • Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque 60ml
  • Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Treatment 25ml
  • Items are wrapped in 100% cotton and presented in an Aesop zip-up microfibre toiletry case with internal pockets

You have to like the range if you get this set, no?

Inspired by Charles Darwin’s ‘Theory of Evolution’, this incomparable range offers exceptional cleansing, gentle toning, and potent hydration to protect and restore all skin types. Each product is enriched with Vitamins and contains concentrated amounts of the high-quality antioxidant Parsley Seed Extract.

The packaging is fabulous; modern, can be recycled, has a minimalist feel. It comes with newspaper wrapping:

Inside is a black box, great travel case (although there are no compartments). This is the larger size kit, if you buy the smaller kit the bag is smaller too, of course.

Inside the bag is some cloth which protects the product. Unfortunately with mine the cleansing oil leaked – not too much about half an inch. As a testament to this bag it seemed to deal with it very well!

Here is the full range. No the glass isn’t practical to carry around but it can be recycled or reused and looks lovely.

I have been using the entire range together for a few weeks – temporarily stopped as this super cold weather has beaten my face badly, so I have had to resort to balms and oils.  So far though, so good. Some of the products are really excellent – I will review these later on in the year (or next year should I say) once the bitter cold has gone.

This kit is great for anyone who has tried the Parsley Seed range and wants the whole shebang; at £187 it’s expensive but worth if it is your range of choice. See it here.

Otherwise it’s a pricey risk to buy this for someone who has never used it or tested it for allergies. They have a selection of other skincare though, for face, hair, body at more conservative prices which make sexy gifts.

Have never tried anything from them so thanks for the review. The kit looks nice although I really(!) don’t like this whole Darwin inspiration behind it.
