Stila was such a huge brand crush for me all those years ago when it first launched in the UK.  I remember going to Selfridges with my friend and worshipping over the lip glazes – since we were both students then there as no way we could afford £20 for a lip gloss.

Now that Stila has been relaunched in the UK I till feel nostalgia when I see a convertible colour or a lip glaze. They recently released 3 palettes, In The Light (neutrals), In the Garden (pretty pastels) and In The Moment (purples). I was sent In The Light to try:

Stila In The Light Eyeshadow Palette SwatchesYou know I hate cardboard packaging! Deep breath…

Shades from left to right are: Bare, Kitten, Bliss, Sunset, Sandstone (bottom row) bubbly, glided gold, luster, night sky, ebony and you also get a smudge stick waterproof eyeliner in Damsel which is a super dark brown.

As an neutral palette goes, it’s pretty self explanatory! There are a mixture of fine shimmers and neutral base colours.  As to how it compares to Urban Decay Naked and Naked 2 I would say the UD palettes are more comprehensive in shades and cover more bases such as providing a glittery shade and a deep black.

Even so, the Stila palette is lightweight palette with all the shades you need to do a really neutral to smokey eye.  The cardboard in this instance doesn’t bother me so much because it isn’t unnecessarily bulky.  The waterproof eyeliner that comes with this is really lovely; pigmented, creamy and long lasting (but not totally smudgeproof – I found it moved from the waterline during the day).

I’ve been using 2-3 shades max during the week for work and it works really well. I think it actually applies better on the eyes than how it swatches because some of the colours feel hard but look nice on the eyes.

If you haven’t got a Urban Decay naked palette yet you may prefer to try this rather nice Stila Palette which is quite compact in comparison.

Stila In The Light costs £25 and is available at Beautybay.com, Asos.com and other Stila stockists.
