A few months ago, I found a tube of unused Burt’s Bees in a equally unused handbag. So I put it on my desk at work and decided that it would be my work lip balm because it wasn’t worthy to be carried around with me.

A bit like how you leave your crap mug at work incase some idiot drops and smashes it.

But for the last few months, because its always on my desk, the original Burt’s Bees has been my daily lip balm and I really like it!

I am a lip balm snob by the way. I bought the La Mer lipbalm for about £40, I bought the Jill Stuart Fruit Lip Balms too. But there is incredibly comforting about the Burt’s Bees, a real workhorse of a balm. So I added two more to my collection – Lifeguard’s Choice and a tinted balm:

I realised when I bought these that there are so, so, so many choices! And there I was stuck with the original stuff!

There’s a whole range of tinted balms and flavours. I picked Lifeguard’s Choice because I want to pretend I’m hardcore and the tinted one in Watermelon because I wanted a really wearable tint:

This Lifeguard’s lip balm is supposed to be extra moisturizing. All the Burt’s Bees balms I have tried (plain, this one and the shimmer) have a menthol, minty text. It tingles, it makes my lips feel smoother and soft.

It takes a few applications to get my lips back to a good condition though – whereas my La Mer heals over night!

Lip Balm – quite a healthy list of ingredients:

Lip Shimmer Ingredients:

Ingredients: ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, cera alba (beeswax, cire d’abeille), candelilla cera (euphorbia cerifera, cire de candelilla) wax, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, lanolin, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, cera carnauba (copernicia cerifera, cire de carnauba) wax, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil (huile de colza), limonene, May contain+/-: CI 77491/77492/77499 (iron oxides), mica, CI 77891 (titanium dioxide), CI 75470 (carmine), CI 778161(tin oxide)

Verdict:

All in all, a really nice addition to my collection – I have a lip balm in every bag so I can just grab one if I need it!

Do you like Burt’s Bees? If not, what is your favourite lip balm?

I have fig, rhubarb, caramel, peony and i think watermellon. LOVE how soft and fresh my lips feel when i use them! Also love the pomegranite lip balm. No waxy taste!!

I like the lip shimmers, but wish they had spf in them. The lifeguard one was nice, but the white tint made it a little difficult to use easily.

Wish they’d ditch the peppermint scent — I’m allergic.

I love Burt’s!, but my absolute favorite is Lypsyl. It’s Burt’s x100.
