I am not the biggest fan of face powders in general – I hate anything that looks cakey on the face and sometimes, I find it can make my dry patches look worse. If I had to use any powder, then I prefer Chanel for loose powder and MAC Careblend Powder (pressed) is also excellent.
For my wedding I used a completely different powder though!
Sisley’s Phyto-Poudre Compacte comes in 3 variations:
00 – Irisee – (Satin finish)
01 – Transparente Mate (Matte Finish)
02 – Sable (For darker skins).
They say:
Moisturising, emollient, protective and soothing, Phyto-Poudre Compacte envelops the skin with softness and sheer protection, thanks to Camellia oil and oily extracts of Mallow and Linden.
It contains micronised talc featuring a double coating of Silicone (for added glide upon application) and Lecithin (for its anti-drying virtues, softness and silky-smooth finish).
I chose 01 Transparent Mate ONLY because I wanted to use this for my wedding day and wanted a soft matte no shimmer/shine finish – otherwise I would’ve been tempted by Irisee.
The case is utterly utterly gorgeous, and hand stencilled apparently!
The powder is housed with a small sponge underneath. Given the choice I would use a powder brush but at the moment I haven’t organised the make up in my new pad so I am short on brushes!!! So I have been using the sponge and patting it on my T-Zone and under my eyes where the foundation can do with setting.
The powder here, looking really scarily pale – it isn’t! It didn’t leave my skin with a horrible white dusty layer at all, it just seemed to absorb the shine, offer a bit of pore coverage and just has a generally natural finish. It’s a glowing matte I would say, rather than a flat matte:
Like the Sisley Blush I have, it has a sort of hardness too it – like the powder is really densely pressed. I prefer this over a super soft face powder because it controls how much you use in a way; you don’t tend to grab too much so it lasts longer and you use less on your face.
Verdict:
I have been using this every day with my work day foundation routine (I am so tired in the mornings all I use is either Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation or Bourjois foundation, followed by under eye concealer only if I really really need it and this powder). If I can be bothered adding some primer (Banila Co at the moment) my base will glow and last pretty much all day!
With it being Sisley this powder isn’t cheap – £58 to be exact but I am confident it will last a long time (I have barely made a dent in it with daily use). It’s a good product for people who want something less messy than a loose powder and want a really natural setting powder that can’t be over done and leaves a glow. I don’t know how well this will control oil on oily skintypes – my skin is dry and it works well for me.
Provided this will last me for at least 18 months (and in my experience it will) I’d happily purchase when I run out
