The thing about glittery eyeliners is that they can look really pretty, or really cheap and tacky. It’s the same for the textures; I’ve always found very glittery eye pencils to be quite hard and scratchy, and very hard to use on my delicate eyes.

I quite like the now discontinued (I think) Nars Chubby Glitter Pencils as they were creamy, but they creased and smudged a lot.  On the other hand, the Sisley Phyto Kohl Star Eyeliners have a brilliant reputation for being glittery and durable!

The unique Sisley packaging:

I was sent 3 shades to try; Smoked Topaz, Pure Sapphie and Deep Silver. I like that the pencils have proper names that tell you what the colour is!

Being Sisley these pencils are not cheap; £30.50 in the UK (each)! They are so posh they each come with black velvet pouches and are topped with Swarovski crystals.  Such a nice detail.

These pencils hold a high level of pearl and glitter, and also a lot of il and waxes so they are nice and creamy rather than scratchy.  They are supposed to be suitable for sensitive eyes (which a lot of glitter eyeliners are not).

The crystals give you some hint of the shade!

How do I find this texture?

On the first few uses it is a little hard and scratchy. It needs a bit of a warm up or even better, using a technique where you quickly whip a lighter of the end really softens it up (I mean a really quick whip through the flame, not set the whole thing on fire). But if you don’t want to ruin a £30.50 eye pencil then you can just hold it a bit as it warms.

After the first 3 uses the hardness went and I was left with a beautiful buttery eyeliner with tons of glitter suspended.  The glitter, depending on the shade you get can be obvious or not as obvious.

It takes more practise to use it on the waterline than on the top line.  I wouldn’t say this is the best pencil for the waterline, plus you don’t want that glitter floating into your eye.

On the top of the eyes, it’s beautiful and can be smudged in (even better as this brings out the glitter).

Smoked Topaz – Warm Brown with gold glitter

Pure Sapphire – Blue with silver glitter

Deep Silver – Gunmetal with silver glitter

This pencil is impressive for lasting power – 6 hours later there is still some of the pigment there and glitter (it fades slightly but bear in mind my make up tends to fade quickly, and my eyes water endlessly).

Although these cost a bomb, if you are on the market for a a beautiful, long lasting elegant glitter pencil that can also double up as an eyeshadow, it’s worth investing in.  They also cause the minimum of discomfort and I have very sensitive eyes so if you have this problem, this might suit you.  Buy them here or on Sisley counters.

£30.50 for an eyeliner!! O_O That said, Smoked Topaz looks beautiful
also, those crystals remind me of some eyeliners that BeautyUK do…although I doubt those ones would be Swarovski lol
