So quite a while ago I went and bought all the shades from the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream range because it was a good deal for all the shades (about £4 each).
Here is what NYX say:
Neither lipstick nor lip gloss—this is matte lip cream. A new kind of pout paint that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and, unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturizing.
It’s a pretty interesting formula; pigmented, very creamy and soft with a matte finish that is hydrating too. I love creamy lip colours that don’t look too rich to the point that they’re dripping..I just find it a little unsightly.
The colours!
There are 11 shades in total so far in this range. There’s a really nice mixture of shades, from neutrals to deeper colours and one or two brights. All interesting and work well, I think, as soft mattes.
Here is the first set which is the neutral lot to the reds:
The first 3 shades are the neutrals and are quite similar to each other. London and Abu Dhabi are VERY similar and you definitely don’t need both. Antwerp is a nice peach although it runs a little more sheer than the other colours.
The reds are nice if you like reds; they sit quite nicely so they don’t smudge everywhere if you are careful.
These are the pink tones – Addis Ababa is a really nice bright pink which is right up my street, and Milan works really well on my skintone (olive) as a nude pink. The others are a little bit TOO nude for my liking and Tokyo in particular is very pale.
My least favourite colour of the set is San Paulo which is a brick red – it’s just not my kind of shade.
Swatches:
I will do proper lip swatches with theses colours soon; the thing is I have really dry and sore lips at the moment so I can’t face doing all 11 at once! I will do once they are a little healthier.
These lip creams are great for the price, nicely pigmented and are fairly smooth to apply. I find that if you apply too much it looks somewhat cakey as you would expect from a matte lip colour.
There’s also the smell issue. NYX don’t half perfume their stuff weird some hideous artificial scents – this one is actually not TOO bad. It’s a bit plastic-bubblegum-sweet. I can live with it but I would never actively choose it.
I don’t think these are hydrating – they’re better than matte lipsticks but they aren’t a substitute for lip balm and if you have flaky lips like me you won’t be able to wear it consecutively for days without noticing the build up of dry skin. And wearing it over balm seems a waste because it sheers the colour out. Hmm. Maybe just now and then, then?!
What do you think of these Lip Creams?

sounds like a great idea, but I think i’ll stick to more moisturizing products for now

Some very pretty colours here, I’m drawn towards Stockholm. Also can’t believe you bought ALL the shades…you don’t do things by halves, do you lol

Nice colours, not too lairy or in your face. I’d buy them if the price was right [which it seems to be]

This is a pretty good long wearing lip product. I still prefer regular lipgloss but these are nice–long wearing, nicely pigmented, and inexpensive. I agree though–they definitely accent dry lips.

I also recently did a review on these lip creams and while I also have dry lips, I LOVE THEM. Only they’re sold a bit overpriced here so meh. If I find a good deal I’d probably haul a lot more than the two shades I currently own (Milan and Amsterdam).

I love these. They are very similar to some high end pro products. The red is GORGEOUS
