The mascara I took away with me on Holiday was Dior’s Diorshow Black Out Waterproof Mascara. How did I pick which one to take? I did hip-dip-do…
With a lash perm in tow, I can basically wear any mascara without suffering from the dreaded drooping (how I envy ladies with the natural curl!).
They Say:
DiorShow Black Out Mascara gives your lashes a little more oomph and a lot more drama. Intensified by ultra-black, kohl pigments, the formula glides on smoothly and draws each lash out to show-stopping lengths. Wear it alone, or layer it over DiorShow to glamour-eyes in an instant!
I’ve never tried a Diorshow mascara before this – I guess I knew it would be too heavy for my puny lashes, but I can see why people speak highly of this mascara.
It’s black – super dark black, and a lovely texture – easy to pull through the lashes and the result is instant…none of this messing about with layers, one layer and BOOM, noticeable difference!
The brush is quite big – this concerned me as smaller brushes work well for my short lashes…
But it wasn’t too bad! The only thing with huge brushes it that I am more likely to smear the product on my eyelid – I had a big of this but because my lashes are so curled at the moment, I seem to be doing it with most mascara’s I’m trying out.
Anyway, on holiday I had no time to mess about with 50 layers of mascara so I would whip this on quickly and I’d be out the door.
Here is the result with one coat – I LOVE. It was so rich in colour and easy to apply…no clumping either:
I guess what I liked the most about this mascara is that it doesn’t take much to get a great result from it – it’s easy like that.
Now that I’ve got a lash perm I can basically judge mascara’s slightly differently (Whereas before, holding curl was of paramount importance to me). So I see that the Diorshow Blackout is an EXCELLENT mascara, really impressive to use and worth the premium price.
Now – whilst this mascara is waterproof, it stayed good under all normal conditions however, it did not stand up to hardcore pool play (that sounds wrong).
I wore this to the pool (research reasons) and it smudged under my eye. I have a photo of this somewhere – I look like a panda.
I said to Mr C, Why didn’t you tell me I had all that make up under me eyes? .
He said, I thought it was supposed to be like that…it was so…straight.
So basically….
Pros:
- Rich Colour
- Creamy texture
- Instant volume and length
Cons:
- Water resistant but will run if you wear it for a dip in the pool!
Verdict: Love this mascara, having tested about 20 in the last month it stands out from the crowd.
Mascara reviews all week! Stay tuned!

I reviewed this on my site too- oddly, it was my summer holiday pick also! Not only was this not waterproof on me, it wasn’t even Karaoke proof- and of course, it’s then that this stuff decides to stay in place, because it’s hell getting those raccoon moons off! I really should’ve returned this when I got home, but, alas- it sits in
my makeup box, used 3 times in it’s entire lifetime. Sad sad sad.

Im a self confessed dior make-up whore, i love it. except their mascaras, i tried them all, they start of quite nice – good colour and stay on ok. then after about a month i found the brushes started clumping together and id be infront of my mirror a 6am with a solid clump of mascara stuck to the end of the wand screaming at my reflection. so i swore off them, if only for my own mental health. Then one day they slipped a tester of the Extase mascara into my bag. i told the lady at the counter the mirror story and she reassured me that the bristles on this wand were different and wouldnt clump together and just to give it a go. Fairplay, i did and i havnt bought a different mascara since. it is absolutely brilliant, one coat and i have thick plump lovely lashes and i love it so much. it works especially well with estee lauder’s primer plus. AND most importantly the bristles have never stuck together and my morning are a lot saner these days.

I’ve used the Diorshow in Blackout, waterproof Blackout and the original Diorshow (love the scent!) and was disappointed to find that, even without pool play, I ended up with raccoon eyes by the end of the night.
This isn’t a common problem for me, so I was really disappointed to see it from such a pricey, well respected brand
