So I have a bit of a thing for hot pink lips, I find the preferable to hot red lips so I purchased this rather lovely looking lipstick from the Hourglass range – it’s called Fever..

I don’t have much make up from Hourglass but I know it’s quite pricy but is good quality too. This lipstick is a cream formula what is hydrating and doesn’t contain synthetic dyes, parabens and sulfates. Apparently these lipsticks are also refillable which is great, because the packaging is very heavy and unique.

Nice make up is getting more and more expensive, no? These Hourglass lipsticks costs £22 each which is certainly not cheap (so buying Fever was a bit of a splurge for me!).The packaging is lovley. It is very heavy, very high quality metal which is shiny but because it’s dark, doesn’t show lots of visible marks everywhere.

The lipstick is also a visual delight – it has this pretty swirly…wait that’s an hourglass. It has a pretty hourglass shape etched on to the lipstick. The lipstick doesn’t wobble. This is very important too me!

I like this lipstick – it’s very pigmented but has a soft sheen to it. It’s cream but not very creamy (like YSL Rouge Volupte) but it’s not so dry that it drags either. Overall I like the texture…do I feel like it’s missing something…perhaps a sort of richness…I think so. I can’t put my finger on it but when I was applying it I didn’t feel like it ‘treated’ my lips or had that special ‘glide’ expensive lipsticks are supposed to have…

What was annoying is that shortly after I got a Anna Sui lipstick which looks really similar but sheerer…hmmm.

Anyway here is how it looked on me. I found it quite blue based on my skin and bordering on purple. I still like it though and I think it wears quite well through a few drinks and still leaving a stain!

I did think that it settled into fine lines, but overall left a plumped effect.

Verdict:

Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipsticks are nice lippies and I’d consider another one in a more natural shade in the future, for when I want something pigmented and not too drying. But if you are happy with your cheaper lipsticks (like this Rimmel in Hot Pink) I see no great need to switch!

I bought mine from Zuneta (see all the colours here).
