Give and Make Up for Refuge & Women’s Aid: How to help

February 21, 2011 |

Give and Make Up is a UK not for profit initative that supports charities like Refuge and Womens Aid by donating everyday essentials to those who are in need.

Each week two women in the United Kingdom are murdered by a partner or ex-partner.
One woman in four experiences domestic violence in their lifetime.

Helping is quite simple, as I found – Grab a bag or box, whip together new, lightly used, samples sized toiletries and drop off at the closest partner who will distribute the goodies (or you can send your donation in the post). They do not take monetary donations at this point in time.

Admittedly, beauty bloggers have quadruple the amount of unwanted products than a lot of women, but if you have that face cream that just didn’t suit, or that gift set your Nan gave you, that you in fact gave her but she’s so dozy she gave it back to you – perhaps it would be much appreciated by someone else.

Now, here is what you can donate:

Everyday Essentials

shampoo
conditioner
bath/shower gel
deodorant
toothbrushes
toothpaste
body lotion
feminine hygiene products
shaving products
at-home hair dye colouring kits

Skincare

cleanser
toner
moisturiser

MakeUp

foundation
concealer
powder
blusher
eyeshadow
eyeliner
mascara

Tools

makeup brushes
makeup bags
hairdryers
curling tongs
straighteners

All Baby Products

Samples sizes are fine.

Lightly used items are fine.

Used mascara, lip gloss. concealer – items with a applicator wand are not.

Please look here for further drop off/postage info.

Thanks to Beauty Bay who kindly took my huge bags of products (they’ll be more soon and get the kettle on!) and Caroline Hirons the founder of Give and Make Up who is kinda hot.

We’re delighted to be involved with this project and cannot believe the response we’ve had so far for the postage labels we’ve sent out at least 30 so far, and we expect this number to grow quite a bit since the publicity we’ve had via this blog and Lipglossiping today.

The generosity of bloggers is second to none – we’ve saw donation parcels arrive than contain more makeup/cosmetics that some of the girls in the office own all together!

We’re dropping another load of donations off this week, so will get some pictures and do some more blogging to show the sheer volume of products we’re receiving!

Hope everyone makes use of our postal service in the next 7 days, and remember we will be giving 10% discounts out to everyone that makes a donation via us!

    Thanks,
    Ailsa
