Even when I have my daily foundation (usually liquid) sorted, I tend to always have some kind of cream compact foundation on the go too.  I love creamy compact bases because they tend to be quite hydrating and offer good coverage – I keep this in my handbag for emergencies and touch ups.

My latest purchase thanks to a random £5 credit to my Debenhams beauty card was the new Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Compact Make Up. I chose 40 Beige.

They say:

Specially designed for normal to dry skin, this is ideal for touch-ups, making it the essential ally for women in search of a radiant, even complexion all day long.

Its light to medium coverage offers a natural satiny makeup finish. Soft Focus pigments illuminate dull and tired skin. Emollient ingredients preserve the skin’s hydration for immediate and all-day comfort. As a complement, SPF 15 protects the skin from damaging sun rays. The formula also contains Vitamin E, renowned for its anti-free radical properties.

Did I like it?…

I am fussy, really fussy about my cream foundations. I haven’t really found the one yet.

When it comes to Chanel foundations, well, I’ve finished every one I’ve ever bought because they are so expensive but that doesn’t mean I like ‘em!  I have yet to use a Chanel foundation that I want to repurchase.

Vitalumiere Aqua comes in a black shiny case which is quite chunky and therefore takes up a fair amount of space in my little make up bag. It comes with a thin sponge and a lid for the compact so it doesn’t dry out.

I chose 40 beige and I admit I bought it online without checking first! In my experience 40 is usually the right colour for me in Chanel bases.

Beige has a hint of yellow in it but it is also quite neutral which suits me pretty well (I am about a NC30 right now).

I have dry skin, and this definitely works well without being too creamy and greasy, which is a common trait of compact foundation.  I was surprised by the coverage too – it’s medium I would say as it covered my pores well, redness and uneveness but some of my freckles poked through.

It seems to set a little to a non powdery finish.  I wore it today on a very very hot day and it kept my skin slightly matte and glowy. I like!

The foundation also has a SPF 15 which is fine but I wouldn’t rely on it in this weather! (It’s very hot in the UK at the moment).

This foundation stayed put for around 5 hours then needed touching up.  I am not sure how well this will last on oily skin to be honest, probably not as well as on dry skin.

Overall I am happy with this base, it’s a staple in my bag now!  Most importantly it’s not too greasy and offers decent coverage.

This retails at £39 which is EXPENSIVE especially as cream foundations seem to disappear quickly!

Would you try this foundation?

Whoah. And I thought the MAC Mineralize Foundation was expensive! I like that one but it gets used up a wee bit too quickly.

Hi there,
Thanks for the info on new chanel compact. I am like you, been through all the chanel foundations and yet to find the one! I am eager to buy the new Vitalumier compact but not sure what color I should go for. Im from the UK but live in Asia and cannot buy the darker shades here, they only go up to beige 30 here. I want to order online but not sure what color I should order. I normally go between 40 beige and 50 natural in the Vitalumier liquid. Did you find the compact was darker or lighter? What would you recommend going on your experience with chanel. Im also NC40 (i think) in MAC if this helps. I would really appreciate your help. Its not easy trying to find the right foundation in Asia as they all want to be fair skinned here.
Many thanks
Karen :-)
