As part of my great big fat no buy FAIL, I purchased this Chanel Mat Lumiere Luminous Long Lasting Fluid Foundation from Debenhams.

I’ve wanted this for ages – its actually what I was after when I was lumbered with the Pro Lumiere instead…

Here is the foundation:

The counter was so so so so so busy I ended up asking my work colleague, who doesn’t wear any make up, every, which shade looked right for me. Her response:

“They all look the same to me”

“What, all 6 shades?”

“Yes”.

You have to realise this is what I have to work with. I grabbed 50 Naturel. I was between a 30 Cendre and 40 Beige last year, so go figure.

The shade seems ok for my NC35-40 skintone to be honest – gives my quite a glow.

Now, I am usually into glowy foundations but in the last year I’ve realised how lovely matte finish bases actually look. Especially in photographs, and for making the skin look flawless.

Upon application this foundation looks wonderful:

In many ways its the kind of foundation one expects from Chanel – blends in easily, no streaking, nice finish.

It is scented as Chanel foundations are, but I don’t mind it too much.

Now – although the initial finish its absolutely gorgeous, this foundation DOES NOT CONTROL OIL. I have oily bits (on my face!) but not excessively so.

Even so, within a few hours, my face looked oiler than usual when I used this foundation. So if you have oily skin and you’re buying a matte foundation to control oil – this isn’t the one.

I am not too bothered about oil control but I must admit a few hours in to wearing this base, I didn’t like the greasiness on my face. Definite blotting scenario…and I never blot.

And yet, I love the finish. Its got medium finish, and looks gorgeous in photographs.

It covers redness and marks well, and pores.

Verdict:

- Gorgeous Finish

- Good Coverage

- Does not control oil well at all*

- Quite Expensive (paid £29)

*(Even when I powdered on top)

When I finish this, I will look for another matte finish foundation that can perhaps stay matte for a little longer. Nevertheless, I do think this looks great at least for the intial period.

I also bought the Chanel Mat Lumiere Powder Foundation, review coming up next!

i like how you say ‘when you finish this’. you seem hopeful that you will and not break your no buy rule again!! I too find it hard to finish up things! never get the end of a lipgloss/ lipstick or eyeshadow.
