Boots is a bit of an institution when it comes to skincare, make up, medicine and body care needs, and most of all they have the advantage card scheme which is very, very generous.

I once saved up £140 on my Advantage Card – and blew it all on make up. Oh the shame! If I could go back now I would buy something more useful like….a popcorn maker or a buggy for my cats.

But I digress.

Boots have recently brought out a vintagey and very good looking range called ‘Original Formula’

So first of the packaging is just lovely. The creams I tried (cold cream cleanser, day cream, night cream) all come in heavy glass jars with a printed label.

The range itself is quite big – there’s bath oil, body cream, body lotion, cleansing milk, cuticle oil, healing salve, skin tonic (a rosewater toner I am dying to try) (all £10 or less) – you can see it all here.

I am not a beauty snob (ahem – well ok, a bit) but everyone loves a bargain!

Cold Cream Cleanser:

I love Cold Cream. It reminds me of my Nan (she’s not dead, it just reminds me of her) – she used to have a big tub of Pond’s cold cream, which was sort of crunchy so I used to stick my finger in a full tub and swirl it around. Ahh the joys of being an only child.

This cold cream is LOVELY. It’s just the sort of cleanser I like (as a heavy make up abuser) – you can really work it into the skin and get the warpaint off. Follow up with a foamy cleanser or a nice toner to get any residue off.

The Vanishing Day Cream:

This reminds me of the lovely Steam Cream, a bit. It’s not kidding – it really does *vanish* is seconds. Perfect for a light, easy to use day cream, no waiting around if you have to put slap on. It smells kind of…floral? Nothing offensive going on here, just a light rose – you’ll be amazed at how easy it sinks in. Perhaps if you have very dry skin, it may be a bit light for you but its great for most skins, oily, combo, normal.

Because I’m an idiot I deleted the photo of the Overnight skin cream but it’s pretty similar to the day cream – light and easy to use. It smells of Bergamot, so a warmer scent that the day cream and is slightly richer:

I recommend this skin care range very muchy – for one thing it’s pretty affordable and it works well and is nice and simple. Sometimes my skin has to much stuff on it just using something very basic for a week or so gives it a chance to calm down. You can get it from Boots stores, you can probably afford to pick it up with your Boots points too!

love your review! I was about to think of buying a new day cream but was not thinking of splashing too much, as I’m heading to the far east to stock up.
The vanishing day cream sounds a good replacement btn now and may!
Pls pls pls.. do a review (if all possible) on the rose toner.. That’ll be interesting

Hi Eve

Yep the vanishing cream is a really nice simple, totally easy to use cream, no allergies, no rashes it’s just a fab cream at a good price. Yeah get it! I will try and get hold of the rosewater toner to review. Rosewater used to be my favourite toner in the world – I used to use pure rosewater from Neals yard, worked a treat!

Love your blog! I’m in the US and I haven’t seen this in stores. Well, I don’t shop that much so I might have missed it.

Yeah, that will probably be the case… it might take a few years.

I’ve heard Boots is a wonderful brand, i believe it’s only available in Europe? I have samples from a friend who lives in UK and I gave them to my mom and my mom loves them!!!

Hey Nikki

I believe they have boots stuff in the US too but probably not all the ranges (they have lots and lots of sub brands). Keep your eyes peeled, got some Boots giveaways coming up, you might win and get a chacne to try them out! x

Just FYI, American Cosmetic Candy readers: you can get it here in the States on Target.com, along with a load of other Boots stuff. Hurray!

I just bought the vanishing day cream today. I haven’t even tried it yet (I bought makeup and clothes too and I wanted to try them out first). I am in the US – New York to be exact and I think I saw most of the brand today at Target. I had never seen it before so I guess it’s new here but they had alot.

Hi Melissa

let me know what you think. I think its a pretty damn good cream, especially for oily skins and for the summer as its so light.

Ok, this cream absolutely rocks. With or without the vintage cutesy packaging!
