**For the next 6 days I’ve got 6 speed mascara reviews coming up. Who will be victorious?!**
If I can help it, I try not to buy extremely expensive mascaras because I go through so many and they need to be thrown out pretty quickly! I just had to try this beautiful Jill Stuart Extra Volume Mascara though after seeing it in a Japanese beauty magazine:
I paid about £24 for this with shipping so it’s fairly expensive.
This extra volume mascara has a special brush – or should I say applicator that is devoid of bristles. I am surprised that that kind of applicator can offer ‘volume’, but that’s what they’re offering! The packaging is divine…Jill Stuart always is:
There’s even this gorgeous crystal on the top of the handle. I will keep this as a brush after I’ve thrown the mascara away!
This is the unusual brush (well I guess there are similar ones about!). One side is flat and the other is slightly spiky which means you can comb through the lashes. You can use the smooth side first followed but the comb:
I really love the applicator – it gets to all the little hairs I have.
The texture of the mascara is unusual. It’s really rich and creamy, it smells like roses and is heavy. It’s almost gloopy like tar – it does very quickly add depth, volume and colour to your lashes. It’s dramatic!
It’s not too clumpy either but it has a problem – same old one – it doesn’t hold curl. It weighs the lashes down – boo hoo! If it didn’t do this it would be ideal. It also comes off with warm water so easy to remove!
Verdict:
A really lovely mascara let down by the fact it doesn’t hold curl and is expensive to buy.
Otherwise it’s very dramatic, adds volume and length and is easy to remove.
I bought this from eBay.

That looks like a Helena Rubenstein mascara I bought from Sephora in Paris (the HR one comes in a bullet-shaped gold tube, but it has the same brushless-brush!). I do like the looks of the result of the Jill Stuart, shame it doesn’t hold curl though…I’m hoping that at the end of your mascara reviews there will be one HG mascara that does everything!
