I am actually quite addicted to eyeliner, especially these new gel type ones which are rich and pigmented.

I had to buy Shiseido’s Integrate High Impact Gel Eyeliner because it is a real hit in Japan, a bestseller due to it’s super rich pigmented black colour and soft texture.  Or so they say.  Here is the pencil – it comes in a sealed plastic strip:

The pencil is a swivel up one, so it doesn’t require sharpening, although it does get quite blunt.  You can’t do a really sharp line with it like you can with this one. The pencil is a gold colour and is really quite pretty.

My first opinion of this pencil was WOW.  It really is super soft and pigmented.  It is the closest pencil I have every tried that genuinely looks and feels like a gel liner (from a pot).

Even the line it creates is thicker and has that same texture as gel liner when it dries.  It works well on the water line and also to tightline with. Shiseido Integrate High Impact Make Up Gel Eyeliner in Black Review and Swatches 1

Although it’s no so clear in this swatch, the pencil is really, truly rich and creamy. Very black. A genuine substitute to gel liners.

I found this left a medium thick line on the upper lashes, similar to liquid liner.

There is a problem with this eyeliner and it only became apparent after I wore it for a few weeks. Even after setting with powder (which is shouldn’t require – it’s supposed to be waterproof) this liner smudges.

First it smudged a bit, then I noticed every single time I used it I had smudging issues under the eyes around around. Very disappointing – they always appeared as black blobs too.

Liner:

The line is soft and super smooth, there’s no problem with the application in that sense, but if you have oily lids, sweaty skin, get hot, or have eyes that water, this eyeliner is in absolutely no form waterproof and it does smudge, it smudges an awful lot.

Therefore despite the beautiful texture and pigmentation I just can’t recommend this!!! It goes everywhere.

Verdict: Nay

*I bought this from eBay

Gosh what a bummer – can’t believe it smudges. It looked so promising too!

That’s such a shame! I have an avon eyeliner similar but I hardly use it because I find it so strange haha! x

It sounded so promising… and then I got to the end of your review.
That stinks :(

I live in Japan, and recently purchased this eyeliner. I actually really like it, and had no problems with smudging, but it is pretty cold here, so not so much sweat.

What a shame that it smudges, big no-no for my greasy lids :( Would have been quite handy to have the results of a gel liner in the convenience of a pen

Bummer! oh well, someday they will perfect it and then I’ll buy it :)
For now I’ll stick to the liquid liner pens. Thanks for the review!
