I have always had sensitive skin which goes red after cleansing and any type of treatments. The woman who threaded my eyebrows once totally freaked out over how red the skin around my brows went – it looked like clown make up.
As well as general sensitivity, my face gets red throughout the day, and stays red. I’ve never thought of it as a huge problem but it is annoying and it tends to come with some itching and general irritation.
It was actually Chase Aston of the Body Shop who mentioned the Clinique powder to me when I went to a Body Shop Event, but turns out it wasn’t due for release in the UK yet. Well – it has been released now in the UK (Exclusive to Selfridges & Clinique Online for now). I plonked down £24 for a jar of this pale yellow powder. Soft yellow should neutralize red.
They Say: Unique mineral treatment measurably reduces redness on contact. It’s lab-certified. Under its care and cover, visible redness and broken capillaries virtually disappear-instantly and for hours. Patent-pending formula helps skin “keep its cool.” Oil-free, talc-free. With anti-bacterial brush. Appropriate for skins with mild-to-moderate Rosacea or reactive redness.
Now, there are obviously lots of yellow/banana toned powders you can try – Everyday Minerals, Bobbi Brown and Benefits Bluff Dust springs to mind, so there are other options.
This powder is very fine textured, I have no issues with that. It does tone down the redness in my skin, for sure, but it is also a very pale yellow. I am yellow based and I think it makes me look a little too yellow. This isn’t a powder for all over – this is for targeted areas. If you apply too much it can look at bit ashy.
It did make me look less red and suppressed the redness of for a few hours. I wouldn’t use it as an all over powder at all, but with a light hand and around the nose, chin and cheeks where I get red. (I use it with a light hand – test it first if you have dark olive – black skin). The finish is pretty matte, no shimmer.

I have had rosacea for more than 15 years and am very fair skinned with red cheeks and broken capillaries resulting from the rosacea. I have just started using Clinique redness relief mineral powder, and have found it to disguise my facial redness well, it is the first product I have come across that actually neutralises the redness without irritation. It’s the first time in a long time that my complexion looks somewhat normal.

Hi J Finlay
I’m glad this works for you! Yellow is supposed to neutralize reds, so any yellow based powder should help a little (and I think it looks nicer than green on your face). I am just trying out Cliniques new mineral foundation and it is wonderful (more on this later!)
