The first item I ever bought from Skinfood, was this Aloe BB Cream.
BB creams, to put simply, are supposed to be creams what work as foundations but also treat the skin at the same time. The idea was borne when people noticed how the ingredients in the creams used on laser/cosmetic surgery patients healed skin amazingly well.
I am quite new to BB creams and I’m not 100% convinced by them either – just yet. The biggest brands I have found are:
BTRC, Skinfood, Orkis, Dr Jart, Skin79, Missha, Tony Moly, Liole, The Face Shop and more. I think I have managed to collect 3-4 different kinds but I don’t really use any of them….
But I digress. The Skinfood Aloe BB Cream was my first dabble in Skinfood. As always with Skinfood, there’s like a million different kinds of types to choose from. Aloe is a rather sensible choice for me:
Let’s get to the point. I didn’t like it. At all.
Firstly the colour. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer it if the foundation I am using matches the colour of my skin. The problem with BB creams is that there often aren’t many colour choices to choose from so it’s a case of taking a stab in the dark to find out which is the most suitable.
So this particular cream looked like an ashy grey colour on my NC30-35 skintone.
But you can blend blend blend and get the colour looking ok.
The texture of it though, I found quite oily. Now, I have a few BB creams and they all have this kind of oily underbase, so it could be that it’s part of the type of cream it is. I didn’t like it though – it felt like I was applying a slick onto my face and I was wondering if my pores were dying to breathe.
This cream had a light scent – I can’t say its of Aloe but its a very generic kind of ‘green’ smell. It’s ok, but I don’t like fragrance in any of my base products if it can be helped.
I basically stopped using this foundation eventually because I didn’t like looking like John Major.
Someone with a lighter skintone than me may fare better.
The best places to buy BB creams I have found are eBay, Adambeauty and if you are in the UK, there’s a cool shop called eBeautyshop which seems to import Korean and Taiwanese cosmetics.
For me, this BB cream is a FAIL!

This is the BEST bb cream ever. I tried Skinfood Aloe BB cream and I hate it. Totally agree with you on the oiliness part.
