I’ve decided that I quite like the eyeshadow quads from Maybelline (I thought I posted about them on the blog, I didn’t, I will do in the future!).
Maybelline Eye Studio Cream Eyeshadow Trio Palettes.
Musey didn’t think much of these, but she’s not the boss of me! I bought just one of these palettes from eBay in order to give it a whirl….
I bought 05 Flash of Forest which is my favourite kind of combo – chocolate fudge brown, emerald green and a cream.
Cream eyeshadows (see my special part 1 and part 2) seem to have come a long way in recent years. I tend to favour my Japanese cream eyeshadows because they are crease proof – ones like Shiseido Hydro Power were a real breakthrough to me because they just didn’t budge.
So I am spoilt. I don’t expect my cream eyeshadows to crease on me anymore. Hmmm.
Maybelline Eye Studio Cream Eyeshadow Trios are certainly soft and creamy – they melt when you stick your finger in them and are fairly well pigmented:
With the brush, the pigmentation is pants. With a finger, it’s much easier to apply and the colour payoff is also better.
As soon as I felt how oily these cream eyeshadows were I knew they would crease – they don’t set, like the Nars Cream Eyeshadows that crease quite badly…
Swatch:
So the colours are very pretty, have a metallic edge and I also think the trio combinations are really well thought out. The cream, green and brown go together beautifully, no?!
They also blend quite well into each other. The colours can be applied easily with a finger – in that sense its a nice easy use item, you don’t need to over think it, you can just apply as you please, on the go.
But on the downside – these do crease. Badly. Even as an eyeshadow base, they crease (Nars Cream eyeshadows wear badly BUT they do make a good base for eyeshadows, especially Lilly Marlene and Zardoz).
I applied this veryyyyy roughly to my eye. I have to say, on a dry lid day, this wasn’t too bad – but in terms of general longevity, darlin’ we don’t have a hope in hell.
Pros:
- Cheap
- Nice metallic sheen finish
- Nice colour combinations
- Blends well
- Is soft and creamy
Cons:
- Creases quite badly
- No good as an eye base due to creasing
- No longevity beyond a few hours
- Not out in the UK yet (I think?)
Verdict:
If you can get them cheap, it’s worth a punt but don’t expect it to lash and don’t let this tarnish your opinion of cream eyeshadows! There are much better ones out there!
This was about £6.50 on eBay.
