I’ve come to the conclusion that the majority of dual use cheek and lip stains are actually quite rubbish.

They’re either too sheer, or look horrible on the lips, or a weird texture…dunno, finding a good one is hard.

I got this theBalm Stainiac ages ago, but didn’t bother looking at it until recently when I was trying to figure out what stains I already had:

I like theBalm – it reminds me of Benefit a lot, perhaps a little less gimmicky.

They say:

The perfect pop of color for your cheeks and lips, Stainiac hint of tint is perfect for all skin tones. Simply dab a touch onto your cheeks for a sheer wash of color or layer for added intensity. And the best part? Stainiac is formulated to give you more time before the stain sets, so it won’t streak.

The Stainiac comes in three colours, Beauty Queen (Berry Pink), Homecoming Queen (Soft Peach) and Prom Queen (Light Rosy Pink).

It comes with a sponge applicator (not too hygienic) and is more of a light get texture. I prefer this over the overly liquid texture of Benetint.

The colour payoff is also better than Benetint:

I didn’t think much of the colour at first – why are stains always in reds and berries? But actually, it turned out to be a really nice, flattering, easy to wear red-pink.

The applicator is quite easy to use, although beware of dotting on your face and getting a cup of tea – you will be walking around with dots on your face for the rest of the day…

On the cheek – I was impressed with the pigmentation, not too heavy, not too sheer. 2 layers to get this effect:

This is on the lips:

Like most stains I have tried, its very sheer, but I still think its not too bad. I find that stains that dry too much make my lips look extra crinkly, but this didn’t feel drying to wear at all.

Verdict:

One of my favourite cheek and lip tints so far – the right amount of pigmentation, hydration and a good texture. I do want them to bring out more shades though, like more obvious pinks, a bronze etc.

Hi Mint

Yeah it barely shows on the lips, better for the cheeks!
