Giorgio Armani foundation and base products are generally accepted being some of the best on the market and as someone who is always trying to find a non cakey powder foundation I was up for testing their new Lasting Silk UV Compact Foundation.

The powder foundation contains SPF34 and is supposed to last for 8 hours using the micro-fil technology, seen in their loose powder.

They say:

For the first time, a combination of highly selected spherical and bouncy powders and small particle talc create a soft, supple and gliding transparent texture that allows for a smooth even application which blends well into the skin with an even natural finish. There are 8 shades to choose from I picked 6 – Tan which is a great match for for NC35 tone skin (it’s not too yellow either).

Here is the case:

This powder is silky smooth but without being too heavy and creamy. Sometimes if a powder is creamy, it can be easy to apply too much and it looks cakey. I struggle with Japanese brand powder foundations because of this.

With my skin being dry in areas, I need something that sits nicely on the skin without sticking to flaky bits.

The foundation:

Can I just say I love the sponge that comes with this! It’s a really thick rubbery sponge – a proper one you can really use all over.

The foundation can be used wet or dry but I found it gave a better result dry, because it did that odd thing where the surface goes a bit hard if you put water directly on it.

I took this powder foundation away with me for a long weekend and nothing else (I never do that! I need my liquid foundation!) and it worked a treat. Despite it being a firmer textured powder (it feels more like a pressed powder than a powder foundation) it gives a good level of coverage when layered and it really doesn’t look cakey.

Verdict:

This is a really good powder foundation if you want a decent level of coverage and a smooth even finish. Another way to wear this is with a primer and a loose powder brush – also seems to give a good result.

My other favourite western brand foundation is Nars but I think the Armani one is better, the finish is less cakey and the coverage is buildable without looking unnatural.

I might try this next time. I am using Dior extreme powder foundation which is good but can look a bit cakey if you try to build it too much.

That’s a really nice natural finish for a powder, impressive! I tend to shy away from powder foundations as they seem to dry my skin out a bit, and I prefer the dewy look of liquid foundations over matte powders, but this one actually looks pretty good…plus I love the packaging (packaging always does it for me lol)
