I’ve never owned anything by Fresh before I was sent this concealer to test, but it certainly looks like my kind of brand!

So the item I got my paws on was this Fresh Supernova (ooh!) Radiance Brightening Pen.

This is one of Touche Eclat many illegitimate children; the clicky pen with an illuminating-concealer-highlighting substance inside.

They say:

Illuminating microspheres instantly brighten and revitalize tired-looking eyes while minimizing dark shadows and imperfections. The good-for-your-skin formula is enriched meadowfoam seed oil to nourish and soften, cucumber, chamomile, and lotus flower extracts to soothe and calm the skin, and mulberry root extract to brighten and even the skintone.

So as well as being a concealer/highlighter, the USP is that it also treats the skin and does not contain sulfates, parabens, fragrance.

I LOVE this packaging. Reminds me of doodling I used to do as a kid, because the truth is…I never learned to draw.

The new generation of illuminator pens tend to come with shade choices, which is an excellent move – Touche Eclat was always a bit chalky on me, so god knows what it looked like on really dark skins. (I know they have shade choices now but I’m talking about the old days.)

Fresh Supernova Brightening Pen comes in three shades:

I think I got shade 1 which is a bit too light for me bout would be perfect for fair skins. No. 2 would be ideal for me.

This pen is called a “brightening” pen – it doesn’t sell itself as a concealer but in my opinion, it’s quite thick so quite frankly works pretty well as a concealer.

You can also use this on areas of your face (like the corners of the mouth) – it seems to work quite well because it’s not sparkly.

Anyway, my eye:

You only need a bit, it’s quite thick:

Verdict:

As I said earlier, the shade is too light for me – so I can’t really rate it on colour fit although it would suit light skinned girls perfectly (01 looks like 01 in touch eclat to me, but is very yellow based as opposed to pink based).

The pen seems to be a nice mixture of brightener and concealer. It was more than adequate for my circles and felt substantial without being cakey or too thick.

Also, this pen is said to hydrate the eye area too – I do think my skin felt better even after the concealer came off – just slightly – but that is a good thing in my eyes as I tend to find that concealer can dry the area around my eyes a little (thus looking crusty as the day goes on) whereas this one didn’t.

Amazing – I’ve been drooling over this brand, especially their twilight illuminator and the mascara. This would definitely be another item I’ll be adding to my “want” list :)
