Review: Creme De La Mer Lip Balm

I started collecting lipbalms when I was at high school, when The Bodyshop lipbalms were all the rage.  We all had Satsuma and Mango, we all spent our £2.50 pocket money on the gunky crap.  And once we started applying, we never stopped.

I always have time for lipbalm, although I am not always that disciplined about applying it, which is silly as I have dry lips.  However, I find lipbalm then lipcolour a bit too much so I tend to reach for the colour as opposed to the balm.

I have tried all the balms.  My personal favourite consitency is a creamy one,  one that spreads easily and it easy to get out of the pot.

For example – look specifically at lip balms in a pot, something like carmex is medium, neither hard nor soft.  Something like Eve Lom’s Kiss Mix is very soft, almost like a lotion texture, albeit stickey.  Most lipbalms tend to be quite hard – the kind you would probably run your finger over the surface to get some product off.  I personally cannot stand sticking my finger in something like that, so I prefer softer textures that you can pick a bit of product from by using your nail.

But I digress.  As far as lipbalms went, I had no where else to go.  Apart from ….. the Creme De La Mer lip balm!

They say:

Thinner than any other area of the face, the lips are virtually defenceless against subtle changes in wind, temperature, dryness, even diet – requiring special attention. The Lip Balm infuses a potent concentration of the original Miracle Broth™ with marine extracts, botanicals and vitamins to regenerate the delicate lip skin.
This luxurious emulsion works on contact to soften roughness, relieve dryness and flaking and help heal seriously dry lips. A patented Lip Lipid Complex is the first line of defense. It delivers moisture, strengthening the lips’ minimal moisture barrier and helping to prevent further damage. An essential protein found in the arctic helps insulate vulnerable lip skin from extreme conditions of heat and cold. Mint comforts the lips and enhances the balm with a cool, refreshing flavor. Like Crème de la Mer, the results are immediate – lips look and feel smoother, softer, plumper – yet long lasting.

Get to it. How much?

£34 smackers for 9grams. I know! Very very expensive.

It must come in a posh pot.

No, not really. Its a plastic post, quite a wide round one. I really like how simple it is and that it’s big but not hard to carry round.  No complaints about the packaging.

What’s it like?

It’s a soft lipbalm texture, and is clear when put on, but a whitish colour in the post.  It smells, to me, very nutty like almond and macadamia.  Once it’s on it smells a bit sea like, and is minty fresh so gives you a bit of a tingle but not too much.

Does it work?

Oh yeah! I have very dry lips and I have been wearing this for 2 weeks not.  Once a day, sometimes twice between lip gloss.  I actually noiced a difference, in terms of lasting effects.  Normally the balms I use don’t last more than a day in terms of really sorting my lips out, but with this, they do feel better the next day.

Worth it then. Shall I sell a kidney?

Nah.  This happens to work well for me, so I am going to stick with it.  I find that lipbalms last a long time – I certainly can’t remember ever finishing a lipbalm so I have confidence this will last me a year, quite easily.  Better than buying lots of lipbalms on a whim and wasting money that way.

But I don’t think you necessarily need to spend £34 on a lipbalm for it to work.  If your lips are quite healthy, there are tons of balms you can try that cost much much less.  I do really like this, and I like the texture, the packaging, everything so its a lovely product for me, but it is very much a LUXURY, not a must have.

My goodness this is pricey. I’ll have to look into this, though, as my lips become painfully chapped in the dead of winter.

I used to world in a UK Duty Free so I got this for about £12 and I have to say i loved it! Kept my lips looking immaculate, it lasted me for well over a year in the end I actually threw it away because I felt it was getting old and stale. I would definitely pay £35 for it and I highly recommend it if you’re looking for the finest lip balm.

Oh and by the way, I’m a guy! – have to keep the lips perfect for the ladies :)

I also have the same super-dry lips problem. No product has ever work for me before. I might try this, even if it lies on the expensive side. Thanks for the review!
