Some people don’t do liquid eyeliner – I personally love them. As long as I have them in pen form, I can do a pretty decent eye, even in a moving vehicle that’s being driven erratically (isn’t that right, Mr Candy?).

I adore this pen/felt tip/sponge tipped eyeliner pen. It makes lining SO easy. If you struggle with liquid liner application, seriously ditch the traditional skinny brush and try one of these out.

Up for comparison today is the famous Lancome Artliner in Black and L’oreal’s Super Liner in Carbon Gloss.

I bought both of these liners myself, over 8 months ago.

Lancome Artliner:

This easy-to-handle, liquid pen features a uniquely shaped foam tip that lets you precision-line, shape and define your eyes.

Won’t scratch, tug or skip. Also features a unique combination of two film-forming polymers that make every look last even longer. Rich, deep, luminous colour pigments offer the most intense- colour.

In the UK we only have black. In the US they have a few variations like brown, grey and a pearl-black.

L’oreal’s Super Liner:

Superliner Carbon Gloss is a liquid eyeliner in a special sponge tipped pen for the creation of fine lines or thick, sultry flicks. The intense carbon black colour is applied with precision and ease and dries without smudging.

(There is also a plain black which comes in a gold tube- carbon gloss has a glossy finish)

Let’s look at the applicators first. Both are sponge tipped which work really well for clumsier girls. There isn’t much between them in terms of the shape of the applicator – both are easy to grip and hold, both have the right amount of point to get a nice line.

I have had both of these for a while – what I will say is that the Lancome tip is holding out a little better than the L’oreal one – that’s starting to fray a bit but it doesn’t mess up the application and I have used it quite a lot since I bought it.

Then we move to the liner itself….In terms of pigmentation, both are opaque (no wishy-washy sheer blacks here). The textures are smooth, no bittyness, no inconsistencies in the colour.

Infact – I would say L’oreal is ever so slightly darker and more pigmented that the Lancome:

Both liners dry quickly and have no problems staying on. They do last and last – I would say the Lancome has a tiny bit of lasting over over the L’oreal (which will fade a little around the inner corner of my eye) by the end of the day. Only slightly though.

The results – Lancome Artliner:

This line was super easy to draw – its smooth, effortless and pigmented. It dries quickly too so none of it got onto my lids.

L’oreal Super Liner:

You can see on the corner of my eye that the slightly fraying brush has affected the finish. Nevertheless, the product is still a dream to use, its smooth, pigmented and I like the glossy finish a lot.

Prices:

Lancome Artliner is £19.00/$28.00

L’oreal Super Liner is around £5.39 (not sure about the US price).

Obviously, you can get almost 4 L’oreal Super Liners for the price of one Lancome Artliner – L’oreal wins here.

Verdict:

Overall both of these liquid eyeliner are wonderful – I can’t really fault either on performance.

I would say that the Lancome is a little bit more consistent in terms of finish and durability, it lasts a little longer too, however, my winner is the L’oreal – because of the price.

If you want the added quality of Lancome then yes, get the Artliner but if you are working on a budget, which many of us are, then get the L’oreal liner, and it will perform just as well for you.

What do you think? Do you wear liquid eyeliners?

Interesting, I’ve never tried these liners. They look lovely. I prefer a less pigmented line though, so I probably won’t check L’Oreal out unless they bring out a grey or something.

Have you ever tried the Lorac Front of the Line Pro Black Pen liner? I use it all the time. It is beautifully pigmented and I just love using it :) The staying power is amazing :)

I’ve just bought a super-cheap eyeliner because I never used an eyeliner before and I think I need some practice to use it properly. Once I learned how to get thinner lines whitout smudging the colour all over my face, probably would go for the l’Oreal , love the glossy finish.

I actually use the artliner and found it to be no more better in quality than the almay :P But the almay u have to dip in a pot and after usage, it can get clumpy whereas the artliner felt tip remains smooth in texture…not sure how long it lasts. I’ve been using it everyday almost for at least 8-9 months and have dried yet ^^ yay
