Asian Beauty Products No. 3: What are Peeling Gels or Peeling Jelly?

Peeling Packs or Peeling Gels are products that ‘peel’ away, or remove the top layer of dead skin gently, usually using fruit acids to do so. Unlike a face scrub, these gels generally don’t have any ‘grains’ in them, they can be runny or thick textured and the user will see little bits of dirt coming away in ‘balls’ (see pic).

Are these ok for sensitive skin? Well you are supposed to use this once or twice a week – I have done this and my highly sensitive skin hasn’t any issues

The four I have tried are Laneige Strawberry Yoghurt Peeling Gel, CURE Natural Aqua Gel, Skinfood Pineapple and MEISHOKU Detclear Fruits Peeling Jelly (behind on reviews!).

Other brands to try: Rosette Hello Kitty Peeling Gel, Skinfood, Tony Moly, Laneige, Cure, Etude House, Innisfree, Shills, Kokurydo.

Candy Says: I really like peeling gels – the ones I have tried so far have been gentle enough on me and they really seem to slough away the top layer of dead skin leaving a brighter result.

Ahhh I have been using one for the face and another for my feet for a while too and you’re right. It doesn’t feel as abrasive as it sounds! For my feet it actually helps that I slather on heavy body butter after that to keep feet soft :) Behind on reviews too LOL!

These sound great…I think there would be something satisfying about being able to rub away the dead skin cells like that, a bit like rubbing away dried PVA glue off your fingers when you were little :D Do you know of any similar products in the UK that’d be easier to get hold of?

Hi Jen

Ah, someone mentioned a similar product I will have to look it up. But seriously just get one from adambeauty.com, it’s really good, 1 week shipping and this stuff lasts forever :D

Ahhhhh…don’t encourage me….once I start using adambeauty the floodgates will open and my wallet will suffer lol But seriously, I think I pick one up soon once I’ve used up some of my facial scrub stash…which one would you recommend out of the ones you’ve tried?
