You know me, love to have multi use, multi functional beauty products so I was rather pleased to try out Stila’s One Step Primecolor, a formula made with mineral pigments that can be used as a primer, cheek colour, lip colour, highlighter and eyeshadow….shade pending, of course!
They say:
One Step PrimeColor is formulated with Stila’s Youth Revival Bio-Available Mineral Complex that reads and reacts to the skin zone-by-zone, visibly priming, balancing, correcting and optimising for a supremely flawless finish.
Here is my shade, in Rosie Posie, a potent rosy pink:
There are actually 6 shades in the range, Bronze Babe, Capri Coral, Kitten (like the eyeshadow!), Per Suede, Pop of Pink and Rosie Posie! There are matte and shimmery finishes too with no parabens added.
The formula is mineral based and contains silicone – it has that kind of glidey feeling silicone primers do. It’s ideal for hot humid weather, and is water resistant. It helps cover pores too and makes your skin looks smoother.
Although the Stila One Step Primecolor is supposed to be multi use – which I think it is to an extent, there are obviously limits depending on the shade you are using. In my case, Rosie Posie is a bright bold pink so for me it’s a lip and cheek product – I wouldn’t use it on the eyes.
The texture is light, smooth and easy to apply. It blending into my cheeks with no problems at all and the pigmentation is just right – it’s quite easy to blend away if you have applied too much but obviously layering the product is the best way to add more colour!
I like the applicator – it’s easy to smush a bit onto your cheeks then blend away or to use on the lips – you only need a little bit.
I guess this has benefits over a stain because it doesn’t dry quickly leaving weird stains and streaks – it’s a soft texture that dries after a minute or two to a soft focus finish.
There are different recommendations for the various shades of Primecolor:
- Use prime color under a lipstick for all day lip colour
- Use Pop of Pink to neutralize yellow on eyelids
- Per Suede is a perfect shade for all skin tones.
- Bronze Babe is ideal for travel. It’s multi-functional and looks amazing on the lips, cheeks, and eyes.
- A great nude lip can be achieved by using Kitten One Step Prime Color as a base. The kitten hue will neutralize red in the lips.
- Use One Step Prime Color as an eyeshadow base and Smudge Pot to create a quick smoky eye. The creamy texture allows the Smudge Pot to blend faster and easier!
I can see where the primer element comes from here – use the product UNDER other things to help fix it to the face. I tried this and it does indeed, prolong the life of blush and lipstick.
Here it is on my cheek – note I applied with a heavier hand than normal to show off the colour. It covers flaws!
It works a helluva lot better on my lips than on a lot of dual purpose products (not drying) although the finish is very much matte and I can imagine will get dry.
It’s a good base for a lipgloss or lipstick though.
Ingredients:
Pros:
- Soft easy to blend texture
- Good pigmentation
- Long Lasting
- Can be layered for intensity
- You only need a bit
- Covers pores etc.
Cons:
- A little expensive
- Dries to a soft matte finish so ask yourself if you like this
- Not all shades are good for everything
- Feels very siliconey – you may or may not like this! If silicone breaks you out then avoid this like the plague.
Verdict:
I love any kind of multi use product – compared to say Stila’s Convertible Color (LOVE), this is less sticky, less opaque and less glossy. It’s far more hygienic though – a big plus. Compared to Nars Multiple, it’s softer and easier to apply.
I’m not going to say that I am 100% in love with this product but it is pretty faultless in terms of delivering what it says it will – easy to use, long lasting, good pigmentation etc.
For that reason I will be investing in Bronze Babe and Kitten for my holidays! My other multi use holiday product choice would’ve been Nars Turks and Caicos Sheer Multiple Tint but my gut instinct was that it was too sheer, too glossy and sticky for me.
This will stand up to the heat and the pool, and means I don’t need a separate bronzer and highlighter (I don’t want to use powder on their face when it’s boiling hot anyway!).
You can buy Stila One Step Primercolor from Beauty Bay for £18 each.

It is a bit expensive, but sounds like a nice product. I’d like to try it for the lips if it’s less drying than those long wear lippies.
