When Kate Middleton because the Duchess of Cambridge, it was widely reported that the Bride did her own make up for the day, after taking some make up lessons.
I am actually all for this – unless someone stupendous ends up doing my bridal make up, I’d much rather do it myself rather than pay for an average job.
There was one thing people picked up on when it came to Kate Middleton’s bridal make up – her dark eyeliner. Some people felt it was too heavy for a bridal look – and it was quite dark and heavy but I firmly believe people should express themselves on their big day! (Remember Catherine Zeta Jones’ wedding day make up? It was very dark eyes indeed).
Anyway, Dame Vivienne Westwood has said to the Sunday Times Magazine that, ‘I think she’s [Kate Middleton] got a problem with eye make-up. The sharp line around her eyes make her look hard. Either she should be smudgy or wear none.”
I love Vivienne Westwood, but I have a huge soft spot for Kate Middleton too – I do think her eyeliner is very bold, but hey, I totally sympathise. I’ve toned it down a lot more recently but there was a time when I wouldn’t leave the house without a thick inky black line all around my eye like a panda – POW POW! (That’s my Kung Fu Panda impression). If it makes her happy, why not?!
So what do you think?

I think Viv has it in for Kate for some reason! She’s said before that she wouldn’t style Kate because she has a ‘boring sense of fashion’ or something to that extent. While I agree that her fashion sense is rather boring, she is a royal now…not exactly known for their exciting style choices. Anyway – back on topic, I do think her ‘liner looks pretty harsh, but if she enjoys wearing it, who is anyone (including Viv) to judge?

Hi Lily
Yes Viv is not…quite the best judge when it comes to make up eh! She is Royal and god knows they HAVE To dress conservately – it comes with the territory now!

I have to disagree. So many people say her eyeliner is too heavy but I think she carries it off. It’s the only part of her makeup that is exxagerated and she obviously likes it. Lets face it, she’ll have practised her wedding makeup countless times and will most likely have experimented with different things. She comes back to solid eyeliner and I think it doesn’t take any prettiness away from her face.

Hi Nazia
I think she must’ve went for what she was the most comfortable with – the dark liner! We all have our signature make up looks don’t we!

I dont understand why a name in fashion has to make comments about someones wedding day makeup. Opinions like that should really be kept to themselves, It was her wedding day, if she wanted to do the ceremony in a clown outfit, its her choice. Just because she is famous and a royal doesnt mean everything has to be done by a makeup artist or look picture perfect, the only persons opinion that should have mattered was prince williams. If anyone said anything about my makeup on my wedding day, i wouldnt be very happy at all. Its none of there business.

Hey Yazmin,
I get why people would be interested in her dress and she had to have a certain style (ie. arms covered, formal) because it’s a state wedding and a big deal. Same with her make up, but the girl is allowed some lee-way surely – I really like that she did her own make up for the wedding no one else in their right mind marrying the future king would do that but she did – I like that shows a bit of a rebel

I agree with Yazmin, it’s Kate’s choice, if she liked the eyeliner no one has any right to say that it looks bad, it’s her choice and she can wear whatever she wants! I personally quite like the liner, yes Kate would look nice with a more natural approach too but I think it really makes her eyes pop!

Hi Lexi
Yeah I quite like the black liner in that, it’s quite rebellious – a bit rock chick!

I quite like the dramatic liner look on Kate, it really emphasises her eyes, but it would be nice to see her play about with slightly softer looks. That said, it’s her business how she chooses to do her makeup, and even though she’s in the public eye she is not professing to be a makeup expert, so VW can voice her opinion but she shouldn’t be telling her how to do it!

Hey Jen
I think it’s quite cool she’s sort of expressing herself in a way – I mean she’s going to be controlled so much now she’s a ‘royal’ this is one way she can be a bit expressive I guess!?

I do think she is too precise with the lower lash line.. it would look better more smudged or just in the outer corner BUT I don’t think its a polite comment for Vivienne to make. I think people in the public eye should support each other and not critisize as there is enough hatred out there. Would it have killed her to say something positive?.. or say nothing at all?
