5 Bloggers I kinda like but don’t want to marry

by Row on November 28, 2009

I don’t get round to talking about other bloggers enough – there aren’t enough hours in the day sometimes but I thought I would do a different kind of post for the day.

cat love.jpg

So – I started reading beauty blogs quite randomly 3 years ago and quickly fell in love with some of them which inspired me to start writing. I used to mainly read US and Asian based blogs – I only knew that other UK bloggers existed about, oohhh, 8 months ago.

Here are 5 blogs that I like to read. These are people who:

- Put a lot of heart into their blogs

- Make an effort to take their own photos

- Are creative and create fun/useful/detailed/interesting content

- Are people with integrity and whom I respect as people

The list is not exhaustative, so please, put down your pitch forks.

1. Izzy

Blog: Musings of a Muse

Based: US

Why her?: Muse is the hardest working blogger I know. As well as being a working girl (not THAT kind of working girl…I think, anyway) she blogs a ridiculous amount. 12 posts a day? She does it. And she still keeps the quality high for every post.

Its so draining when I have to do three posts a day (its a killer when you do your own photos for nearly every post) so how Muse does it, I don’t know.

She is also a sweetie pie who does amazing CPs for me and sends me super fattening American snacks in a box!

DOWNSIDE…

- She denies the existence of bacon mayonnaise

- She’s a little bit *too* obsessed with John Barrowman

- She coined the nickname 10 inch for Mr Candy. Try explaining that one to the kids.

2. Nikki

Blog:
As Me Whats

Based: Philippines

Why her?: Nikki is a really lovely person and writes a very full, well rounded blog. She reviews everything so well – from showing the packaging to including the ingredients, to the actual process of using a product.

She covers a wide range of products too, and always posts pictures of her delicious meals – don’t read her blog if you are starving!

She’s also a real nail buff – great at nail art and has fabulous tutorials that run from quite simple looks to complex, ornate ones. And she always makes them look easy, even for a nail dunce like me.

DOWNSIDE…

- She should love closer to England. We could go for a coffee!

3. Suka

Blog: Suka & Spice

Based: US

Why her?: Suka has a really fun little blog with lots of nice, clear photographs and useful reviews. She talks about products that I can’t always get over here which makes a change for me, and she always does swatches and a look with the products, when possible.

Suka also makes a lot of interesting natural product posts, things to do with oils (don’t be rude) and food! She is forever tweeting about food. You could talk about food with her for 10 hours and she would still keep on going. I like that!

DOWNSIDE…

- She likes kimchee. I hate kimchee. She nearly stuffed a turkey with Kimchee. I mean, YUK!

4. Kirsten

Blog: Saskia the Style Fairy

Based: UK

Why her?I think I am excellent judge of character, and immediately liked Ms K. when I first met her last year at this event. Since then I have found her to be the voice of sanity and a very funny pal to have around.

Her blog is quite young and is more of a scrapbook, I think, of things that she’s found that interest her (make up, interiors, icons, fashion etc.) Its something a bit different, without airs or graces and I like looking at her Polyvore sets since I have never joined Polyvore, or it would be the end of any kind of real-world existence and MY CATS NEED ME IN THE REAL WORLD!

DOWNSIDE…

- She’s Scottish so I have to listen extra hard when she talks

- I have to censor my ginger jokes when I’m talking to her

- She goes on too many holidays, when I haven’t been on any in years

5. PJ

Blog: A Touch Of Blusher

Based: UK

Why her?: I don’t know PJ personally – she is but an enigma ;) – but A Touch of Blusher is one of the blogs that inspired me to start blogging.

When I had the idea to start blogging, many moons ago I emailed PJ, who took the time to write me a very long, detailed, personal reply on how to get going. I know now, how many emails bloggers must get so I thought it was very kind for PJ to take the time.

PJ brings the newest collections to my attention, especially Japanese releases which can be hard to keep on top of. When she reviews she does so in a lot of factual detail, with prices, colour options etc. which helps when you have other bloggers going, “It might be gold….or pink…I don’t remember.” (hey, I’m one of them. I need to take more cod liver oil).

DOWNSIDE…

- PJ has been posting a little less than normal lately – but as we all know, life gets in the way of blogging sometimes. Hopefully there will be more new posts when she has the time.

May I just add a note here, for out dearly departed Mandy Pandy’s Beauty Blog, one of the most well written, charming blogs to grace Blogger. Come back Mandy! You are much needed diamond in the sea of weeds.

So – what other blogs and bloggers (apart from me! I better be in there!) do you love reading?

Patience, my pet, patience! I’ve got a new online alias, a new domain name (though this time, I’ll be gracing Wordpress), and a new lease on life (now that Senor Psycho has ceased his stalking -I think). I’m currently planning the acquisition of a Canon Powershot A1000 so that I can take my own photos and thus make it into your top 5 next year (though I must warn you: I’m a good Asian girl, so if you don’t want to marry me, I’m not giving up the goods).

I’ll e-mail you with the deets sometime later today.

I’m blushing! (or maybe that’s rosacea that I didn’t know about?)…thank you so much for featuring me here :) I’ve been reading your blog for…probably as long as I’ve had my own, and have been interested in the idea. It took me about a year to realize you were in the UK (i’m slow, i know), and I think I assumed for a long while that you were in Japan or something–based on the products you reviewed.

I don’t think I’d marry you either–you’d have to be able to put up with my kimchi smelling fridge. :) xo

ooh I didn’t know the real name of the Muse is Izzy! ooooh

The first makeup blog I met was Jen’s ABS. It made me addicted and resulted in watching more sites and start blogging myself.
Her mascara review collection is veeery useful and i find myself using it whenever I compare mascaras.

Come back Mandy! I miss reading your blog.

Nice list. I didn’t know of a couple of those blogs (shame on me), but have already opened them in tabs for the reading ^_^.

MandyP November 29, 2009 at 5:11 am

I miss you too, Kaoru! I’ll try to have the new blog up by weeks end; I’ll send out an e-mail once it’s up and running.

I love Izzy! I definitely need to check out those other blogs too.

I’m always on the lookout for mineral makeup blogs also, got any recs?

Gwen November 29, 2009 at 12:35 pm

I discovered your old blog through A Touch of Blusher and have been following your posts since then!

For those blogs written in English (not in any order)

1. Pink Sith, she always crack me up with her sarcasm. (And she seems quite honest with her reviews, her she is not trying to say nice thing just so that she would keep receiving more freebies from the PR.)

2. I really like PJ’s reviews especially how she takes her her photos (and I love the fact that she writes very neutral reviews.) but I don’t read her blog nearly as often now since I am not particularly interested in brand releases.

3. Rocketqueens: She doesn’t post that often but she does really pretty look of the day (that I would never be able to pull of myself) it’s like looking at painting.
