Recently I dyed my hair and it was way too dark – urgh. I have been here before. I wanted to help it along and fade the dark dye so I asked on Twitter which shampoos would work best for fading.  Two were overwhelmingly recommended:

1. Vosene

2. Head & Shoulders Shampoo Original Formula

I used Head & Shoulders and yes it totally, totally does work. Within 2 washes I could see the difference – the black had started to lift and I could see a browner tinge underneath. Lovely!

However – I also wanted a SLS free option. I did a search on eBay for clarifying shampoo and found this:

Avalon organics Clarifying shampoo lemon

Avalon Organics Clarifying Lemon Shampoo.  Clarifying Shampoo’s are the best for getting rid of hair dye. So was this paraben and SLS free formula any good?

Avalon Organics was a COMPLETELY random find for me – random. Luckily I love lemons too!

This product helped fade hair colour – not as much as Head & Shoulders, but it did lift some of the black. Bear in mind that clarifying shampoo isn’t something most people will use all the time – it can be stripping unless you have really oily hair or use tons of products.

But another thing – this shampoo is FIERCE. Oh yes.

Most shampoos are decent or great. This one is rather amazing. It left my hair so shiny, so soft and clean.

It contains Shea Butter, Aloe, Vitamin E, Organic Lemon and more…I didn’t buy the conditioner though, I usually use something more industrial strength.  I paid £8 for the shampoo inc shipping on eBay. There are various stockists of this range over the internet.  I will 100% buy their shampoo again, maybe a different formula like a moisturising one, as I don’t want to be using clarifying shampoo every day on my dry hair.

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice(1), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Laurylglucosides Hydroxypropylsulfonate, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil(1), Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Cedrus Atlantica Bark Oil, Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Extract(1), Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract(1), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract(1), Styrax Benzoin Resin Extract, Arginine, Bisabolol, Sodium Citrate, Sodium PCA, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Alcohol(1), Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Citral, Limonene, Linalool.

Vedict:

Head & Shoulders is amazing for fading hair dye.

If you want to gently fade hair colour and a SLS free formula, try the Avalon Organics.  It really was such a surprise, I was expecting typical, generic, bland organic shampoo.

Ooh, I will have to try this avalon organics shampoo! I liked the tea tree scalp treatment shampoo but the smell wasn’t anything special. If the lemon is nice, maybe I can try the lavender or ylang ylang. or maybe i should try the tea tree mint treatment shampoo for my scalp issues.
