I recently made a haul from VDL cosmetics, a Korean brand with quite a lot of interesting products and two of the eyeshadow products I got were VDL’s eyeshadows, specifically from the ‘Sparkle’ shades – the super glittery colours. I chose Sparkle Chocolat 208 and Sparkle Bronze 903;
These eyeshadows come in boxes, and the actual cases are very similar if no identical to MAC solos. They are priced quite reasonably – I paid about £7-£8 an eyeshadow.
Here are the colours! The bronze is more yellow gold than dirty bronze, which is what I would’ve preferred, but no big deal. Chocolat is a dark cool brown with lots of shimmer. There is also a ‘gold’ shadow in this range which is a bright clear yellow gold.
See how similar these are to MAC?!
Bronze looks like a peach gold when swatched and works well to highlight the eye and as a lid shade. Chocolat is not as dark as it looks, and is like a medium to dark brown with lots of golden orange shimmer. Both are very shimmery when swatched and on the eye, giving an almost ‘foiled’ look. The eyeshadow is smooth to apply and pigmented too;
The shimmer is plentiful but it there isn’t much fall out at all…yet I wouldn’t call these eyeshadows ‘metallic’ in the sense that the shimmeryness comes from the glitter, not from the powder itself.
Here is it on my eyes – you can see it looks foiled – bronze on lids, chocolat in the crease:
HOWEVER! And this is a key point.
My eyes did experience irritation with this product. It’s though not even like there was big pieces of glitter falling all over the place like with RMK glitter shadows, even so, the fine particles must’ve got into my eyes because they watered throughout the day every time I wore these colours. GAH! The colours are extremely pretty too, so it is a shame.
Super pretty shimmery colours, but caused irritation in my eyes which means that when I do feel this urge to wear them again, it will be with extreme caution – lots of primer and fixer on top…which will probably irritate my eyes even more so, er, maybe I won’t wear them again.
I purchased these from eBay.
