Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette Launch Today on Urbandecay.com: Review and Swatches

The last time Urban Decay released a Naked Palette it was like Christmas Eve in the frozen meat department at Asda; everyone was desperate to get their paws on a set.

I liked the first one, although you know how I feel about cardboard packaging (not a fan).  Naked 2 palette, launching officially next year in the UK and today (1st December 2011) on Urbandecay.com comes in…a tin! A TIN! Call me a nutter but this is a deal breaker for me.

Here is the palette – this year it comes with a mini lip gloss:Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette Brown Eyeshadow

The palette comes with 12 shades, a large double ended brush and a big long mirror, great if you have a wide face.

Colours are:

Oh wait, let’s have another look at the tin first. It’s a bit too big to carry round in the bag, but it’s perfect to use every day and to keep in the big make up bag.  It would make an excellent weapon.

It’s a tin! A tin! No more stupid cardboard!

Let’s try again – colours are:

1. Foxy – Matte Cream

2. Half Baked – Gold

3. Booty Call – Shimmer pale pink

4. Chopper – Bronze, a bit glittery

5. Tease – Matte mushroom

6. Snakebite – Dirty cool brown

7. Suspect – Mid toned cool greyish tone colour. Silvery.

8. Pistol – Silvery Taupe

9. Verve – Silvery metallic

10. YDK – Knockout gold metallic foiled fawny type shade

11. Busted – Deep rich cool toned brown

12. Blackout – Rich matte black.

There is such a great selection of Naked shades in here – from truly naked like the matte cream and matte mushrooms, but enough glitter and metallics to do a smoky eye or really do something fun and interesting.  A teal eyeliner with this palette is screaming at me!

Even the brush is decent – you know palette brushes are usually rubbish? This is like a proper brush you would pay for individually.

First 4 colours – I love my matte base shades as they’re not ones I would actively go out and buy, so if it comes with a palette, even better:

Next 4 colours – I really love tease – I just think it’s very useful indeed and also pistol is a sexy silvery taupe which I just like generally:

These shades are very cream and pigmented – I didn’t have an issue swatching any of them:

Final 4 shades are really beautiful and rich.  I love matte blacks anyway and Blackout is ideal.  YDK is just stunning as is Busted. I like how the deep metallics have different tones (warm, cool, silvery, gold) which means you can do lots of different looks or mix them up!

How is this different to the first Naked palette? Well take a look! Overall, I prefer Naked 2 because I see a more rich metallic taupe silver theme going on, and the overall feel to me is ‘cooler’.  I adore matte black which the first palette doesn’t have.  Half Baked I believe is the only dupe from the first palette.

I actually took this palette on holiday with me last week – as long as you do like the more natural shades and tones, you’ve got everything you need here.

Here is the mini lip gloss, which is a shimmery, sheer warm brownish nude on me – I’ll swatch it later.

Quick look at the brush:

It’s a VERY good quality brush, synthetic fiber and a good idea (application and blending brush) as opposed to providing a super fluffy brush a lining one (or something like that!).

So that’s it for now! Take a look on Urbandecay.com today to see the palette and get prices (I will update as it appears).

Will you be buying the Naked 2 palette?

I wasn’t going to. But now I’ve seen your swatches and I like the cooler tone to this palette as opposed to the warmer tones of the Naked 1 palette. I hope this is permanent 😛

Thanks for the swatches! I love Chopper and YDK, will definitely be picking this up when it comes out in the UK. Why do we have to be behind the US though? Technically by a year as well….

Thanks for the post, I love the 1st Naked palette, and this one looks good too.
Too bad UB website doesn’t ship to Canada, I will have to wait for Sephora to get it. Do you know when the Sephora launch will be?

Love this palette! Thanks for the swatches. :) How do we know if we’re more suitable for warm tones or cool tones eyeshadows? I don’t have the original naked palette becos I thought it didn’t look good on me..

Heard it’ll released in Sephora US in Feb 2012.

I have Urban Decay Half Baked, Chopper and YDK in single/pot form. I love all the colors and they’re so pigmented; however, I do get some fallouts during application with YDK & Chopper, which have microglitters. I don’t really mind because I usually do my foundation AFTER I do my eye makeup & I can easily wipe away the fallouts. Also, for those who are having trouble applying them, I recommend using a firm brush, such as the Mac 239, & tapping off any excess before applying. =)

RAH okay i want this!! nooooo

You’re so right about the cardboard packaging. Bought my friend the Book of Shadows 4 for Christmas cos I was sucked in by the “ooh you can plug in your ipod” gimmick and stupid butterflies
Anyway, took a peek last night and was so NOT IMPRESSED. Granted, I knew it was a cardboard jobbie but the finish was so poor that I had to get me PRITT STICK out and secure some of the peeling corners!!! I wouldn’t dare present it to my friend looking tatty and unfinished. And the worst bit is it was not cheap. FML!

am i the only one in the entire world who is not impressed with any of the naked palettes

I went into debenhams with a gift voucher of £40 ready to buy it, i only seen the swatches online, but everyone was raving and i thought i would jump on the bandwagon, my friend was interested but hadnt seen the swatches so i showed her the tester. And boy was i dissapointed, the swatches and the pictures make it look fabulously amazing, and then when i came to hold it in my hand, i wasnt impressed at all. I was really looking forward to it, because lately ive been really into the neutral natural-ish looks. i just spent the voucher on a few essentials from Mac.

And now looking at the product pictures above, if someone was to show me this picture and ask me which palette is which (witout the packaging) i wouldnt be able to, they both look the same to me.

A really big dissapointment for me.

My heart did an Olly Murs and skip-skip-skipped a beat (sorry, I couldn’t resist!)

I will defo be buying this, even though I don’t actually NEED it.

Man now I am torn. Temptalia made me feel like I could skip this, but your review made me think that I should. Oh quandry quandry! I should prolly just splurge and get it. LOL

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES I definitely want this!! I already love the first Naked palette, and I think I actually prefer this one because of the slightly cooler shades. I love how you can get so many subtly different looks out of it, perfect for work and going out. YBK is such a pretty shade.

    Oh Naked2 palette, I lust after thee….
