When I first received some samples from Estee Lauder’s new side range I was like whatttttt? The range dos feel like Estee Lauder but…different. Youthful? Fun? Quite daring?
The Estee Edit is a huge range of cosmetics and skincare which is aimed at beauty junkies; colours that you would never have seen before from Estee Lauder for example, and new colours and funk packaging and youthful vibe. That’s not to say that everything from the range is bright, there are nudes there but if you’ve ever wanted a blue lipstick from EL – well, here it is!
Today I am looking at 4 of the lipsticks:
One of the ranges of Lipstick is the Mattified collection (12 colours). I do like the look and finish of matte as long as it is not TOO dead dead dead matte which is not really flattering on my already dry lips. So you see the packaging? Not very EL is it!?
Then observe the packaging! Like regular Estee Laude the cases are heavy and luxurious, not cheap in the slightest but a solid silver instead of the signature gold! I love it! I also adore the splash of blue on the packaging which makes it look really funky.
Here are the four colours I have:
As you can see the colours are pretty bright. None of them have glitters or pearl or anything like that.
05 Just Sayin – A purple pink, bright but not overly garish.
06 Smash – True creamy midtone violet purple.
09 The Storm – Greyish blue teal.
10 Killin It – Bold orange red.
Swatches – pigmentation is excellent, texture is quite smooth for a matte lipstick – no dragging or pulling. It has a sheen when applied that dries off in to a semi matte finish (like NARS lipsticks) which is actually flattering to wear, not drying, but definitely matte looking. They also leave a stain which lasts for a good few hours.
Now excuse my poor swatches, the rest of my face was having a bad day.
I absolutely adore Just Saying – it’s the perfect candy purple colour that ti both bright but not too garish. For example I find MAC’s Candy Yum Yum like a few other hot pink purples I have are TOO whitish in the base which just makes me look like a clown. This colour has the perfect mix which makes it both fun and bright but wearable too. I love this shade so much it lives in my current carry around bag.
Smash is another one I adore and is very fashionable right now (A true purple). Would I wear this every day? No. Do I think there are times I would wear it – yes! It’s not crazy unicorn enough to abandon in to the drawer of ‘once every 20 years’ so I would if it took my fancy, put this on for fun:
The Storm is again very fashionable but I don’t know if I am feeling it for regular wear – it’s just not feasible for a trip around Tesco but do I love the concept, YES. Are there some people who would rock the hell out of this colour? YES!
Finally Killin’ It I wrote of as yet another bright orange red but it’s actually the ULTIMATE bright orange red. It’s so much fun and super super clear and bright on the lips. It’s one of the most orange-y reds I own and I really like how summery it is.
My favourites in order are:
1. Just Sayin
2. Killin It
4. The Storm.
The last three colours are acquired tastes and if you are in to bright of funky colours, then why not?
