Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter Review: Creamsicle, Peach Parfait, Cupcake, Gumdrops and Red Velvet Swatches

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters have made quite a splash in the USA, and even before it’s official launch this month, there were many, many ladies talking about it’s amazing formula.

The Colorburst Lip Butters come in a whopping 20 shades, and are a combination of lip balm and tinted colour.  It contains mango, shea and coconut butter and is made to boost hydration in the lips. Oh and I really like the snazzy packaging!

Revlon Lip Butter Swatches Review

I was sent my choice of 5 colours to test, and I went for Creamsicle, a nude light cream, Peach Parfait (as worn by Emma Stone in main visual) a warm golden peach, Cupcake a sheer baby pink, Gumdrops a blue based pink violet and Red Velvet, a deep burgundy type wine red. Just for some variation!

As mentioned earlier, the colour range is HUGE! 20 shades is a lot to pick from at launch.

I think all of the colours are quite nice.  I have heard there are some quite frosty looking shades but I am really happy with my choice!  It’s not often a tinted balm has so many colours:

Sometimes tinted balms are too sheer – I don’t think these are intensely pigmented (they’re not supposed to be) but they certainly are buildable.

Here are the colours with ONE swatch only. I don’t know about you but I don’t like to layer on too much lip colour as I find it looks quite unnatural:

The selling of this product has to be the texture.  What is the texture like?  It’s quite unusual and not like many others I have tried! More on that later.

Now let’s have a better look at the lip swatches.

Lip Butter in Creamsicle:

This is as expected VERY nude looking, for that subtle beige lip.  I have to be careful with lips like this as too much looks cakey.  Otherwise it is what it says on the tin although it very much masks out whatever your natural lip colour is.

Lip Butter in Peach Parfait:

This is an interesting shade because it isn’t really a peach, or what I would call a peach. It’s warmer than a peach, like the skin of a hairy peach if you picked out the very darkest reddish-orange shade on it’s skin.  It’s also infused with tons of gold micro sparkles which is very pretty. I have this on my desk and can’t stop applying it!

Lip Butter in Cupcake:

This is a cool toned baby pink. It reminds me of the shades I am in to at the moment, really cool pink hues.  It is quite nice, I think on the wrong day it might be a bit too light for me if I apply too much.

Lip Butter in Gumdrop:

Cupcake and Gumdrop have similarities, what I will say is that Gumdrop has more of a blue/lavender base to it and is more pigmented. It’s more retro than Cupcake I guess, and I like this fun shade a lot.

Lip Butter in Red Velvet:

I felt obliged to pick something deeper and pigmented as my final choice. It didn’t look like my kind of red in the tube (I like orange reds) but it works very well on and can be worn sheer or as quite a rich warm red.

The texture of these is yummy. It is buttery? Well no, because butters are a  bit slimy and greasy, these aren’t.  They aren’t firm or hard, but they aren’t overly squishy.  They have a slight stickiness to them, sort of a glidey feel too but it feels like a good layer is always left on your lips.

When I do lip swatches I have a feeling of dread because I know they dry my lips so much.  When I swatched these; nada. Minimal disruption because they are so hydrating.  They feel lovely on dry lips like mine and genuinely like a lip balm, because some tinted balms let’s face it, are neither good balms or lip colours.  These feel like they do both jobs very nicely.

Verdict:

There has been so much hype over these I wasn’t sure if it was just hysteria over an average product.  Whilst I’m not saying that you will die without these, they are a very very very nice product indeed.  My lips are peeling off so much with this dry weather, a lip colour that leaves a nice hue and deeply moisturises too kills two birds with one stone.

Do I want moarrr colours? Yes! Greedy I know, but YES!

These are out in the US and will be released in the UK shortly – afraid I don’t have a confirmed date for you.
