Review: ELF Natural Mineral Lipstick

If there’s one product I have an ultimate weakness for its lipsticks and lip glosses. Well…ok I also have a weakness for foundation, concealer, mascara, cream shadows and brushes but…well, shut up!

Lipsticks are fab because they are such a nice little boost. Its one of the few make up products that you buy and isn’t relegated to the bottom of a make up box – its something you take out and you whip out.

So, in all honesty, how can a £3.50 lipstick stand up to my Cle De Peau’s and Dior Serums and YSL Rouge Voluptes?

Not bad at all actually. The lipstick comes in a little box like this. I don’t have a problem with ELF packaging, they are right to keep it simple.

Now, this natural lipstick has no dye, parabens and preservatives. Good if you have allergies – I have only just looked at the ingredients list again now as I type the review and its impressive. When the first 3 ingredients are Jojoba Seed Oil, Coconut oil and Candelilia Wax, we are doing ok.

The packaging comes in this black plastic – its not rubber like Nars’ but its not entirely shiny either. Has a slightly matte edge to it. Its a light weight lipstick case, not heavy like pricer models but thats not really a ‘problem’.

I think I have Nicely Nude. I don’t actually remember. Grrr.

They say:“Now you can hydrate your lips and get a lasting soft color naturally! This nourishing blend of exotic oils, natural waxes, vitamins and plant extracts create the perfect moisturizing formula.

The sleek lipstick has superior color payoff, glides easily onto lips, and is long wearing. Lips stay perfectly hydrated and soft throughout the day for no fuss, lip loving happiness.”

This is a very nice lipstick and if you are looking for a paraben free lipstick (there aren’t that many around) then this is for you. And the price – yep totally worth it.

If I have one criticism is that it felt a little hard to me at first – once you have warmed up a bit its gets softer – but having seen the ingredients list again I can see why it feels harder than my other lipsticks.

The pigment on this lipstick is sheer – medium:

Buildable, and with about 2-3 layers it lasted through 2 Diet Cokes.

Is it a replacement for my Cle De Peau – well, no, but I could get 10 of these for the price of one Extra Silky so we have to be realistic!

These ELF Natural Mineral Lipsticks are good if you want a selection of wearable every day colours and a preservative free product for less than a fiver.

  1. I was just thinking about these the other day. My local Target carries ELF, but I’ve never really taken a look before. I think that will have to change :)

  2. I purchased the HD powder (got it for $1 or so with a coupon code); I’ve only swatched it so far, but I already prefer it to the MUFE HD BS.

I’ll be sure to check out the lipsticks too.

  3. oh.. i love the shade of this lippie.. wish that elf outlets were scattered here =)
