I haven’t used Clinique in so long (the same applies to brands like Chanel, Dior, YSL – I guess Asian and niche brands have been taking my attention) I was actually really excited to test out their new foundation in that iconic shaped bottle. It’s like revisiting an old trusty friend.
Superbalanced Silk Make Up SPF15 (£23) is another addition to the huge range of foundations Clinique already offer. This one contains SPF, and promises a weightless finish that also controls oil. It is oil free and works for dry-combination, combination oil and oily skin types with build able coverage and a natural matte finish.
If you are wondering how this compares to the regular Superbalanced make up, well it contains SPF and has greater oil control.
I also have their foundation buff brush (£28). This brush is dense but resembles a stippling brush at the ends and has anti bacterial technology. It can also be used with liquid, powder, cream and stick foundations. It has a nice blend of being a dense brush but also loose bristles – sometimes I find foundation brushes have too much of one or the other (either too flat and too dense or too loose).
The shade I have is Honeymilk which I am SO PLEASED ABOUT – when I get sent a sample of foundation it is always slightly too light or slightly too dark and that’s totally understandable (it can’t be easy colour matching for someone based on a photograph) but if a foundation matches EVEN BETTER. (For reference I wear a MAC NC35).
Clinique offers this foundation in 20 shades and it covers pretty much all skin tones which is fab.
Now I totally forgot how tricky it can be getting foundation out of a bottle! Turn and tap! But will too much come out?! EARBUD. That is the key.
Anyway this foundation is….great. Really great. It feels like a creamy liquid, and offers very good coverage (I didn’t need concealer) and I found it had quite a diffusing effect on pores. I also felt it was pretty glowy with a lovely sheen which I do prefer as it makes the skin more radiant and alive. But to test how good this is with oiliness, I didn’t powder at all and I have to say this base held up the whole day on areas where it usually fades first (such as t-zone) so I guess that’s the oil control.
The other thing I really liked is the fact it blended so fast. This is probably the fastest blending foundation I have ever used (if that makes sense?). Swipe swipe and the base had disappeared in to my skin – I hate having to spend ages blending in a stray foundation so this is a big plus for me.
Here it is on my face:
This is an excellent foundation for people who want medium coverage that blends incredibly quickly and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. At the moment I use a BB cream day to day as I am at home with the kids but I also have heavier duty bases in my make up bag for more special occasions or if I want a longer lasting finish and this is one I will keep in my immediate make up bag, it’s definitely worthy.
