The other set of Real Techniques brushes I purchased from Amazon with a slight discount was this ‘Starter Set’ which is specifically for the eyes. There is a set of 5 products in this in a nice purple and black design with a case that doubles as a stand.
I am quite fussy about my eye brushes; I have a trusty few I seem to use a lot then the rest just get picked up occasionally. My favourite expensive brushes are from Nars and Trish McEvoy. Their brushes are far more expensive then these Real Technique sets – some of them cost £50 alone!
So this set includes:
- base shadow brush: applies a smooth, flawless foundation of color
- deluxe crease brush: soft, oversized design for effortless contouring
- accent brush: designed for precision detailing, spotlighting, highlighting, and smudging
- pixel-point eyeliner brush: tapered cut is ideal for dense or fine eyeliner application
- brow brush: distinctive shape easily defines eyebrows
Once again as with the ‘Core Collection’ I think the bristles are excellent – good quality and no shedding from these whatsoever.
I got the most use out of the base and crease brushes. Both are fluffy, soft and easy to use. The accent brush I liked for using under the eyes. For me the weaker brushes are the eyeliner – as I am using gel eyeliner less, and the brow brush as I don’t really fill in my brows. It is soft enough to use on the eyes though, something which a lot of brow brushes aren’t because they’re so stiff.
A closer look:
The thing about any pre made brush set is that you have to decide how much use you will get out of it depending on how you apply make up. I love 2 of the brushes, like 1 more and the other 2 I could leave. Having said that they are good brushes so I have been grabbing them occasionally and just using them for other random applications.
My dream set would’ve been something like the first two brushes, an accent brush that is thicker and bushier, then maybe a pencil point brush. That’s just me though; it’s very hard to please everyone with a pre made set.
Here is the brush case – using the elastic, you can VERY cleverly change it from a carry case to a stand! So clever!
This is made of nylon. It is prone to picking up make up so beware if you have foundation on your fingers. It does wipe clean fairly easily though,
This is how it looks when folded over into a stand. To be honest i took the brushes out of the case as I prefer to have them in a looser environment like a tub or when I am travelling, I just stick them in a separate make up bag I can wipe clean.
Another strong set from Real Techniques. Once again, good value. I prefer the ‘Core Collection’ though over this because there are some brushes here I wouldn’t get as much use out of but nevertheless, as a starter kit it’s well worth considering.
