Protect, Whiten, Brighten: Kose COEN RICH Q10 White UV Protector SPF50+ Review

I am crazy for SPF at the moment, and one of my recent purchases was this Kose Coen Rich Q10 SPF. This comes in a handy small sized container (good for the handbag) with a SPF50 and whitening properties.

It’s also waterproof and good for outdoor activities – what else could you want (if running for the bus counts as an outdoor activity?!).

This little bottle needs a good shake before you squeeze it out, otherwise it will sort of separate.

Because this product as “whitening” in the name, I was worried that it might look affect the sunscreen and it would look white or ashy on the skin.

The lotion is quite runny with no shimmer particles (as some sunscreens do):

There was no stickiness or oiliness after a few moments…there was a moment when I wasn’t so sure if it was going to leave a tacky film.

Luckily it did sink in nicely leaving me with this finish:

It does have a scent…sort of a fresh smell which is quite nice. It also doesn’t break me out which is good as some facial SPFs are a little too much for me and leave me greasy quickly or give me little spots around more forehead and chin.

Overall – this is a great SPF. It’s handbag sized, goes a long way, is a high SPF, has a nice texture and has Q10 in it!

It’s just $10 on

I’ve always liked Japanese sunscreens. Their texture and lightness are ususally better than the heavier cremes we mostly have available here in the U.S. My only concern is that there seems to be a growing trend in Japanese sunscreens to use nanoparticles, which I’m a bit iffy on still. But then I guess for now sun protection – a known good – is better than the potentially harmful effects those particles may or may not have.
