I have never used Philosophy skincare before, although I love the little messages they have on front of their packaging. It always seemed like quite a wholesome brand tome so I was keen to take this Make Up Optional Kit home. For a rate of £56, you get four full size products:
8 ounce purity made simple one-step facial cleanser
1 ounce when hope is not enough firming and lifting serum
2 ounce hope in a jar cream
5 ounce hope in a tube eye and lip firming cream
Sachet of microdelivery peel
The full retail price of these items separately is over £100.
So I started to use the products. Purity reminds me of….well I don’t know. Its quite runny and I found it needed two goes to get make up off but it felt good on the skin.
No toner is needed after Purity although I used one anyway – why? Because I can!
Next was the moisturizer, Hope in a Jar. If only hope could be bought in a jar, Philosophy!
I don’t know what the hell it is in this cream but it makes my eyes water like mad! It bordering on menthol…let’s have a look at the ingredients:
water, lauryl lactate, behenic acid, behenoxy dimethicone, glyceryl stearate se, glycerin, behenyl alcohol, cyclomethicone, pentaerythrityl tetracaprylate/tetracaprate, tocopheryl acetate, benzyl alcohol, retinyl palmitate, stearic acid, panthenol, betaglucan, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil, xanthan gum, triethanolamine, propylene glycol, methylparaben, propylparaben, diazolidinyl urea
Ok I have no idea, but I did find the scent of Lavender very strong and after a week of this product it stills make my eyes water – and no I keep it well away from my peepers.
Hope is not enough facial firmer sounds good to me – anything that can improve texture and tone is useful. Ingredients:
water (aqua), glyceryl polymethacrylate, pentylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerin, butylene glycol, hydrolyzed soy protein, peg-7 glyceryl cocoate, palmitoyl pentapeptide-3, glutathione, potassium ascorbyl tocopheryl phosphate, larrea divaricata (chaparral) extract, sodium hyaluronate, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, allantoin, carbomer, lecithin, polysorbate 20, sodium hydroxide, phenoxyethanol, methylbromo glutaronitrile, fragrance, tetrasodium edta
There’s a strong scent to this which I think smells like melting plastic – not nice, for me anyway. It does feel good but I hate the smell quite passionately.
Hope in a tube is a nice light textured cream, I patted this around the eye and around the lip area. Seemed to sink in nicely so no complaints but you don’t get much of this product.
The first 2 times after I applied I got a burning sensation and itchyness…urgh. But ladies this is the UK not the US and you can’t just return things willy nilly so I will have to try and finish it all. My skin isn’t looking that much better but I will give it more time. I hate the way the range smells overall – it just isn’t very nice and I am definately suffering from minor irritation.
I’ll finish it but I’m not raving over it, let’s put it like that….
