NARS Eye Paint Haul; Iskandar, Snake Eyes, Mesopotamia, Interstellar Review

I somehow managed to completely miss the Nars Eye Paint launch and subsequent hype – I guess because I have so many cream eyeshadows I wasn’t really interested in buying more. They nearly always go off before I have even got good use out of them.  But then…

I saw these colours on a Pixiwoo video and decided to buy one colour to try (the silver, as a love silver with warm brown eyeshadow).  Then one turned into four.  All from SpaceNK, (you get £5 credit for every £100 spent).

These eye paints can be used as eyeshadows or liners.  They are a ‘weightless gel formula’ pigmented and smooth. They dry quickly to leave a long lasting finish (18 hours wear) and the colours vary from mattes to shimmers.

I ended up buying four colours; Interstellar, Mesopotamia, Iskandar and Snake Eyes.

The colours:

The colours look completely like gel eyeliners (in glass pots) so I found it hard to think of them as eye paints….I sort of feel like eye paints or cream eyeshadows should come in flatter pots where the colour is more accessible to the finger, because that’s how I would personally apply cream eyeshadows (patting on for example), whereas a gel liner I would use exclusively with a brush so it can come in a narrower pot. Just a minor thing, but still.

Interstellar, a cool icy silver:

Mesopotamia, a matte rich chocolate brown:

Iskandar, a true gold:

Snake Eyes, a black with green shimmer.

Texture wise, these eye paints are indeed very light and weightless, which is comfortable to wear, and it dries in a reasonable time so you can blend, and set to a really long lasting finish. Towards the very end of the day, there was a little creasing, but I do mean at the very end of the day. Otherwise, these are excellent for longevity.

Pigmentation is another winner IF you like strong bold colours. The reason why I love these is why a lot of people wouldn’t – the colours are strong statement shades and they are very pigmented so may not be the kind of thing people wear every day but I personally love a bit of colour in the day.

Cream eyeshadows have the problem of being quite sheer sometimes and require quite a few layers to build up decent colour.  You don’t have this problem at all with this product and therefore you don’t end up with tons of layers of heavy product on the eye.

I like Iskandar and Interstellar the gold and silver very much – I would use these with lots of other colours as I love the shimmer.  They would work with my usual browns or green shades too.

Mesopotamia is quite boring really – just a matte brown but I wanted something I could blend in with the gold and silver. It’s not a bad matte at all, although the colour isn’t unique.

Snake eyes I wanted very much as I love blackened colours but actually it’s not that nice in person; the green shimmers feel somewhat dull, and aren’t as striking as I’d hoped. The black is also a little greasy looking and of all the colours, it creased the most.

Please excuse these rubbish photos.

Verdict: These are excellent eye paints and are well worth the money, but you do want to use them regularly to make sure you finish them before they dry out.  I’d pick the more unusual colours again as they are quite striking.

Each pot costs £18.50 and you can buy them here.
