We end the week with Kat Von D, a brand I am really enjoying and now that there is a counter near me, I can see myself going for a concealer and liquid lipstick soon.
You probably know I am a huge foundation fan – regardless of texture I adore trying them – they don’t have to be perfect for me all the time as I switch depending on the season but I do know what I do like and what I don’t.
Kat Von D’s Lock It Foundation is as the name suggests, a highly pigmented, high coverage formula.
At the moment in my day to day life I am using light, barely there BB creams and tinted moisturisers, so I have no use for this base, right?
Who doesn’t need high coverage, long lasting base sometimes? This foundation hides everything, and also keeps hime at bay – I find the finish to be a matte but not a ‘dead’ matte – my skin still looks healthy. I use one pump only so it doesn’t look to heavy and the primer is a must for keeping things hydrated underneath. Like most opaque foundations it will cling to flakes so make sure you are exfoliated!
*I am a 45 Neutral*
Ok let’s talk about the bottles. GORGEOUS. So pretty in thick plastic containers, and hygienic as you pump to release the product.
I have to say I do really like this foundation even though my preference is usually for lighter foundation with glow. Because it lasts – my god does it last. I used this before a 3 hour walk in the sun and it was still there not moving an inch when I got home. If I want completely flawless this is the base I would reach for.
So, why do I prefer this to Estee Lauder’s Double wear?
I frankly, find Double Wear FAR too drying and mask like for every day wear. I find it looks dead on photos and makes my skin look so unnatural. I love other EL bases, just not that one yet I hear people referring to it so often and I think…but it looks like a mask. I feel like Kat’s foundation offer the same coverage and longevity but without the ‘flatness’ AND I have dry skin but can still wear it without any problems.
I was matched on counter which I am glad about – I am a neutral, not a warm which is what I usually go for.
Here is an idea of what the foundation looks like on:
This foundation is 100% staying in my make up bag as my ‘special occasion’ and ‘all day wear’ base. I don’t need any concealer either when I wear this as it covers so well.
As this foundation is quite bulky I think I will buy a concealer as my carry around product for covering blemishes.
Have you tried their foundation?
