I knew instantly when I head that MAC has a ‘waterweight’ foundation I had to buy it to try. I am a fan of the concept of a runny super light base – something so light you can barely feel it is on but evens everything out.
MAC call this foundation a light weight gel-elastic-serum that also blurs pores and fine lines, but will also control oil. The closest other MAC foundation I have is the classic Face and Body which I almost liked but don’t…for some reason that base doesn’t cover enough for me and I tend to get patchy looking skin with it (and I have tried several times over the years). So perhaps Watertight would be my lightweight MAC foundation solution?
I bought NC35 without testing as it’s my go to shade. I’ll say that I think it runs a little lighter than my other MAC bases! I don’t know why but I think my face is slightly more ashy after using this foundation. Aside from that…
MAC Studio Watertight is a decent foundation and not like any of my other foundations I reach for on a regular basis. It comes with a dropper bottle which I love the concept of, but is a bit fiddly in reality – if you don’t want make up all over your hands. I mean you could get a palette or squirt it right on to your brush…either way it is somewhat messy. The dropper is relatively accurate I suppose.
I like how it looks though!
This foundation is as you would expect, lightweight but not watery – I think Face and Body is lighter and thinner, this one is watery-ish but still has a thickness to it, if you know what I mean, like custard. It also has a heavily silicone feel to me, that sort of smooth slick you get when you use a product dense in one of the ‘cones’. I don’t have an issue with this but I don’t like foundation that are too silicone-y as they tend to slide on my face. Since this is lighter, I can somewhat get away with wearing it without feeling like it’s sliding off my face.
I have been using this base a few times a week when I just want a hint of coverage and evening. My blemishes and freckles show through with this base. I can layer it but then I feel like it’s a bit greasy, so one later is enough. As I can’t be bothered with concealer on my face (only under the eyes if required) I let me flaws show through on the days I use this base. The result is very natural and suitable for relaxed days.
I think this base wears ok – maybe 5-6 hours which is just ok. I don’t expect my skin to look flawless by late afternoon!
Here is what it looks like on my face – I do like this base and it serves as a nice light alternative to the MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation I wear on days that need more coverage.
I recommend this base for:
– People who want a light textured foundation
– Want a natural finish
– Don’t require lots of coverage
– Want something that is semi glowy
If you want lots of coverage or a none silicone base however, you won’t get it here.
You get 30ml for £25.50 and the runny texture of this foundation means it will probably stretch a little further. Buy it here.
