Well, I absolutely love red lipstick ON OTHER PEOPLE. I find it a little too arresting on myself (in a bad way), and when applied badly, clownish. Having said that, I have been trying out different reds to see if I can find one that I feel comfortable with.
So don’t ask me why I bought MAC Ri Ri Woo and Russian Red. These classic MAC red lipsticks are bright and bold, and are not for the faint hearted. Oh well…you only live once.
I do like my large collection of MAC lipsticks – they always smell nice!
Now both of these lipsticks are mattes. Russian Red is of course quite a well known classic red, RiRi Woo is newer but is also a matte. RiRi Woo has the writing on the product thankfully otherwise I would get mixed up between the two:
RiRi Woo and Russian Red in my opinion are very similar and I wouldn’t say that anyone needs both. RiRi is brighter I think, more of a pillar box red and Russian Red has a touch more blue and depth in it.
Both are matte but Russian Red has more of a sheen to it and is easier to apply and spread. I found RiRi Woo SO SO SO DAMN DRY! I mean I was dragging it across my lips and hoping that I wouldn’t end up snapping it off because it was so hard to apply. I get that this dry texture gives that super matte funky finish to the lips that makes it looks like it’s powdered almost..but god. This is not one for unhealthy lips.
Ergo, Russian Red to me is the nicer formula to wear and apply. Both last well.
