I am very careful as to what products I use on the kids, and I always choose organic and as preservative free as possible (or should I say, irritant free) as both of my kids have had ezcema so I won’t just use any junk on them (thankfully they are clear now, but it’s pretty bad seeing your kid unable to stop scratching).
Babylabs is a company with impressive credentials. The range is certified organic, natural, non-GMO, cruelty free. I chose Sweet Orange Shampoo and Body Wash and the Baby Lotion to try on the kids.
The gentle cleanser is both a Shampoo and Wash (£8.55) and contains avocado, coconut, olive oils, aloe vera, and chamomile tea.
The body lotion (£9.40) contains beeswax, aloe very, vitamin E, rosemary extract and sunflower oils to hydrate dry skin.
Both products smell lovely – like freshly peeled satsumas (but it is quite strong). But there’s a catch!
Firstly I have to talk about the textures.
The Shampoo and Wash is a nice runny texture, that lathers a little (to be expected in an organic product). I would say that it cleaned the hair and body well removing all grease and bogies and general child dirt.
The body lotion is very light – again smells just like the wash – I wouldn’t say that it is THAT hydrating and I wouldn’t recommend for kids with dry skin. It’s more suitable for kids with normal skin that doesn’t cry for moisture all the time.
The ingredients list is very impressive:
The problem with both of these products is the amount of essential oil, fragrances and rosemary extracts which stung the kids eyes, and the lotion stung the kids skin where there are drier patches. Also, when my husband bathed the kids (he has eczema and some cuts on his hands) it stung him too. Basically – smelling like satsumas is amazing BUT the concentration of essential oils in these products was just far too much for the 3 men in my house hold – it stung or irritated every single one of them (I tried it and it was fine but I currently have no skin issues).
Therefore I cannot recommended it to kiddos with very dry skin, sensitive skin or eczema.
I love the ingredients list and scent but what good is it if stings?
I was sent these products from Biovea which is like a gigantic supermarket for health products (I love it because I am mad for these kinds of things!). The range is huge.
I would definitely try something else from baby labs because I love the concept but I would test it first.
