KATE Wide Edge Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches – PU-1 and BR-2!

Japanese eyeshadows, especially high street/drugstore level brands usually come in palettes with a particular colour theme (ie. browns or purples etc.) and come with a selection of shades from light to dark – very handy.  They also tend to be sheer and shimmery although some palettes pack a real punch, the majority are wearable daytime palettes.

If you ask me, there was this season when KATE had the Glam Trick Eyes (absolutely stunning eyeshadows, pigmented, gorgeous) and Lavshuca had the Mix Eyes (I can’t find these anymore online so I am guarding them with my life!).  Ever sine then the eyeshadow releases have been quite – meh.

These KATE Wide Edge eyeshadows had promise! I purchased two:

PU-1 (purple) and BR-2 (gold brown).  No particular reason for these choices, I find Japanese eyeshadows rotate the same kind of shade groups…

In each palette for get a helpfully labelled: Eye Base (matte or very low shimmer creamy shade), Highlighter, Medium tone for the crease and deep to line. The Wide Edge shades is a very rich shimmery colour with traces of glitter.

If you buy KATE eyeshadows too, have you noticed how they look better in their packaging then out of it!??!

KATE Wide Edge Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

Hello!? This is supposed to be purple but it’s more of a muted grey-plum type palette. It’s sophisticated but oh so dull. The only remotely purple tone is the wide edge shade with is a dull lilac and the medium has hints of purple.

Swatching it, it’s rather dull. Yes it is wearable but it’s a little to ‘thin’ to me, if that makes sense. A wishy-washy shimmer:

BR-2 however fares much better. The deeper shades are nice and pigmented and the wide edge shade which is a cool gold is FAB. Really gorgeous pure metallic shade. There’s a lot of shimmer with this palette.

Once again, these palettes are not extraordinary, and they are like a lot of other Japanese eyeshadow palettes, quite shimmery, quite wearable but with a pretty edge.  I’m not blown away by either, but they’re not bad – certainly BR-2 is worth buying if you love cool golds.

I bought this from eBay.

  1. I do love Kate eyeshadow palettes! I agree with you that most Japanese eye shadows are quite sheer and shimmery – hence my tendency to buy European ones! Very pretty!

  2. I’ve yet to try Kate, but i’ll definitely be picking up some eye shadows soon, they do look lovely!

  3. Yeah, Asian brand eye shadows tend to be less pigmented. And they don’t last very long on the lids either, even with a primer underneath.

  4. i like kate e/s palettes, many shades of one colour, but cant really use it on its own
