One of my favourite – if not my favourite Jo Malone scent is English Pear and Freesia Cologne.
It’s the perfect mix between floral and fruity. It has a top note of King William Pear, a Heart Note of Freesia and base note of Patchouli.
For me, it’s a really bright, alive and fresh scent, but also feminine and romantic too with a sort of champagne, drunk type alcoholic note in it; it smells like what a really fun wedding would smell like. It would be a gorgeous scent for a spring or summer bride. In fact if I had found it sooner, it would’ve been my wedding day fragrance. It’s what I call a ‘happy’ scent; it’s clean but not boring, if that makes sense.
Anyway…I thought I would do a quick comparison with a strange little perfume I found!
Aritaum is an affordable Korean beauty range, along side your Innisfree and Etude House products. I like their lip stains and generally they have interesting items.
I noticed a scent they had in a small travel friendly tube called English Pear (it is part of the Stick Monster Lab collection – don’t ask me, I don’t know why!) but it also apparently has a Freesia note too! So of course I had to compare.
Basically – the Aritaum perfume is very very much inspired by the Jo Malone.
At first spritz it’s hard to tell them apart! But…shortly after that, the smells change. Aritaum’s resembles English pear and freesia, but it has a somewhat plastic like note. Once it starts to die down, it smells like a thinner fragrance – quite floral with a tiny bit of pear in there and smells quite likeable. There is something orange-peel like to it which I don’t like as it starts to die down, but that is just me. Once it has completely settled, as in after a few hours, it smells like an average fruity floral, not bad but nothing special.
What Aritaum’s much cheaper scent is, is a cute copy of the Jo Malone. It completely lacks the rich body and fizzy rich layers of the Jo Malone. It’s like having the top of a pie but not all the filling. BUT – if you are on a tight budget and Jo is out of your reach, or you want a cute similar scent (it would be lovely for a teenager) then it’s not a bad second version of the original. I have given it to my cousin who loves Jo’s fragrance but as she’s a student, the original is out of her budget and she likes the Aritaum version too!
