On Friday I went for an evening browse in the shops with the husband and kids – this particular shopping centre also has a kids soft play area so as Mr C took the large child of a tumble, I pushed a sleeping baby around and ended up picking a few treats for everyone. My treat was a lipstick from MAC and since this was an unplanned purchase I uncharacteristically chose a colour I would never ever ever normally pick;
MAC Diva is a matte deep reddish burgundy lip colour. I am a natural lip colour – milky pink or apricot – kind of girl most of the time with a little love for hot pink. When I am feeling bold I may wear a red but that is not often, but I do love a purple. Burgundy red like Diva isn’t even a colour group I would even consider for me…it’s too…vampire.
Still, I like MAC Lipsticks – not too unfairly priced, nice scent, and I have some older ones that are still a great texture now. I am sure this is a good errrr investment – if not just for the fact that so many MUA’s use MAC for tutorials that it pleases me when I see a look I like and I ALREADY HAVE THE LIPSTICK.
The last 3 MAC lipsticks I bought are all Matte textures. They’re not horribly dry mattes thankfully (apart from Ruby Woo) my dry lips can live with them.
MAC Diva has a particularly beautiful soft cream rich texture that is not dry to apply.
This lipstick is very opaque and has good coverage. It has a sheen when applied but dries down to a more matte finish.
Although burgundy is not my thing (it reminds me of my old school jumper) I do like it on and I like burgundy on the eyes also it seems to make my eyes look a bit eerie (as if that’s a good thing!).
Ok so I don’t have a lip liner that matches this and I couldn’t be bothered getting a lip brush – needless to say with this level of intensity a bit of care and attention helps when applying this, not using your reflection in the window as I did! Whoops! But here it is anyway –
I do like it I do, actually more than I like a super bright red which looks a bit clown like. It’s still a look at me shade but elegant. Yes my hair is still purple – my toner stained the highlights and it won’t come out!
Now…how do I actually wear Diva so that I feel comfortable popping to the shops? I use the very popular Asian beauty invention, the lip concealer!
I have many lip concealers which I rarely use so was happy to dig one out! This one is KISS make up (a Japanese brand) and works pretty well. You can use a regular concealer of course, lip concealers I believe are formulated to have a smoother waxy texture like a lip balm so they don’t cake on the lip (whereas regular concealer may set and be a bit cakey) and some like this one has a SPF too…if you intend on using one Etude House do a good one for about £3 on eBay.
Anyway. I use the lip concealer all over the outer edges of the mouth and both DIVA on the inside of my lip only. The look is very Korean, they love to do a dark shade in the centre followed by a lighter colour on the edges for that, ‘I just suck and go’ look – I AM TALKING ABOUT LOLLIES.
Here is how it looks – it sheers down to a purple and for me it is more wearable day to day:
I really have to do something about my purple hair.
So that is how I will wear MAC Diva most of the time and probably it’s other bold relatives like Ruby Woo.
Do you go full on bold or sheer?
